Motorola Droid mailers go out, scare children

droid-mailer-3

Ready for more Motorola Droid nonsense? Good. We’ve just got a couple images of a promotional mailer that went out to one of our connects. It has a pretty decent shot of the device on it (What? You need more photos?) and those ever-clever “I do” key features the Droid, uh, does. Check out another two shots after the bounce.

Thanks, The Busymind!

    Motorola sucks – completely! If anyone forgets the lousy products they make and ventures out to buy one of these – then they deserve what they get. Just remember the “razor” (their number one phone for years) was rated the worst quality phone of all time – yet they continued to sell it without improvements and people continued to buy it. it’s a strange world.

    @John

    I don’t know… My last Moto device was a positive experience. It was an MPx220 back in 2004. At the time, it was a great device. I graduated to something that had EDGE, and later, actual 3G. Still, I had precisely zero complaints with my MPx220. Let’s face it: the RAZR wasn’t for smartphone type folks. It was for teenage girls who wanted a thin/attractive phone.

    My greatest reservation about the Droid is the pricing of Verizon’s plans. Sprint can give me more for less. If rumors about T-Mobile Dark/Black are to be believed, they can lower the price of my plan even more.

    If Verizon can make their plans price-competitive, the Droid will be a no-brainer for me. The iPhone is cute, but I’d much rather have the Droid.

    @John:

    Razr was the worst quality phone of all time? Really? Thats why it sold over 110 million units world wide I guess. Your an idiot. Everybody knows the LG Chocolate was the worst phone ever.

    Droid looks awesome and Motorola builds good stuff, just haven’t been terribly interesting lately.

    If nothing else, VZW is doing a heck of a job drubbing up interest with the marketing of the droid. I hope the phone lives up to the marketing hype.

    Everyone talking about google voice, while that will probably work, we can only wait and see if Verizon holds up to its open platform stance. Regardless of whether or not it does, the minimum payment option available for this phone is gonna be the $39.99 basic plan with the $29.99 data and email. So, $69.98 before fees and taxes for an individual plan.

    Also, Verizon has been saying a lot of Alltel plans won’t be able to be transferred, but I’d check with a sales rep before making any final decisions. My girlfriend and I were able to keep our Alltel plan when she upgraded her phone recently.

    Hey, I just got an epiphany, I was looking at this website:

    http://www.examiner.com/x-8134-SF-Gadgets-Examiner~y2009m10d20-Motorola-Droid-advertisements-tease-release

    And now I’m wondering if they moved up the countdown so they could announce it 2 days earlier, and then release it on the 30th, so that it could have a pre-halloween release, and maybe thats why they have all the “scary” packaging and are going that way with the advertising.

    I know this conflicts with the “November” on the commercial, but then again the commercial was launched a few days ago and the countdown was just changed.

    A nickel for your thoughts?

    There is a lot of speculation that the countdown was moved up because of the overwhelming hype, but in the end it’s anyone’s guess. Just make sure you tune in on the 27th at midnight.

    I’m not sure what to think of this device. It doesn’t look any different than devices we have seen in the last year. The specs seem great, but I have seen similar specs on a device. Android is a great platform, but far from the best. Now that HTC is using Sense UI for WinMo, I think Android comes in third in OSs. Motorola as a manufacturer hasn’t made a smartphone that was a game changer ever. I’m wondering why so much is expected of this device on bothe sides?

    I am getting the droid today and will be playing shortly after the fed ex guy leaves! I am hoping tjis pjone is half the phone everyone believes it to be. I almosy switched to ATT a couple of times for the I-phone and had many Bad exoeriences with the OMNIA. I also have had a couple issues with Aoole customer support with my Ipod touch. Berizon’s customer support has always been good to me.

    I am glad people like BGR and others are here to give un biased opinion’s that people listen too. I do not believe Apple is going to take this sitting down and we can expect a counterpunch or two and very soon, and we need people to sorty thru the stuff and seperate fact and fiction. Tjanks again and keep uo the food work!

    I agree that Motorola is not the best phone in terms of performance, and it seems like they put too much effort on the ‘look’. Hope Driod can save them from the grave. (it’s so true that nobody uses Moto anymore except my parents who are over 60)

    A friend that works in IT told me about a new Emblaze phone and supposedly it has this innovative OS – different than anything we’ve seen so far. He said it’s much more than a cellphone with extra functions.have anyone heard of Emblaze before?

    You’ve seen better specs? Can you name the device? Better yet, name the mobile device out there that is currently available and better than the Droid (excluding the iPhone).

    Shaggy says:

    Most people are missing the big picture.
    Iphone rocks, so far is the king. Why because of its ease of use, and more importantly the App’s Store. But lets face it, AT&T service is sub par from Verizon. Verizon lost many customers to AT&T when they declined to have the iphone on there network. Verizon is now searching for a way to bring back those users to there company again. verizon has a far superior network, that is a no brainer. Anyone who has used both networks knows this to be true. So if the Droid is even half of what they claim, they may prevent more users from leaving, as well as regain some older clients who had left. I really hope the Droid lives up to the hype, as I fell into the BB Storm, hype, and its a p.o.s.
    So I guess as this point, anything is better than the original storm.

    @Dwayne,

    How many smartphones that:

    - Are fast (not laggy)
    - Have a 5MP camera with flash
    - Come with a bulit-in QWERTY keyboard
    - Have an 854 x 480 pixel capacitive screen
    - Are solidly built and made out of metal
    - Were built with the direct input of Google

    Have you seen in the last year?

    Do

    @AdGuy: “Those guys are already sold – like me. You need to target the masses who don’t even know or care what an iPhone iDoesn’t do.”

    Sorry, but I think the campaign so far DOES target the masses… By starting out playing off the iPhone style with the perky faux ‘indie’ music, and the minimalist design, it gets the attention of anyone who’s seen an iPhone ad, and then shatters the expectation with a whole world hidden behind the bland veneer (regardless of one’s opinion of the OS etc).

    For getting the attention of the general public, DroidDoes it better than most (though the Palm Pre ads were apparently pretty effective too).
