AT&T now selling the HTC Tilt2 for $299.99

att-htc-tilt2

Businessmen and women have been able to get their hands on it for the past 10 days, but starting today AT&T will sell the HTC Tilt2 to us regular folk. The second Windows Phone Windows Mobile 6.5 handset to be offered by AT&T after the Pure, the Tilt2 is available for $299.99 on a 2-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate or $499.99 contract free. But we have to ask for the sake of stirring up a little Sunday discussion: Considering the fact that all four carriers in the US offer up the Tilt2 in one form or another, why pick AT&T over Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon?

Thanks, Alexander!

Hmm…Good question. Why would I want this over my TP2 with Sprint? Mite have an argument to have this over the T-Mobile version tho…

ATT over others you ask – For Slingmedia, or do others allow that? I heard Verizon won’t. Other than that, so I can have a limited 3g data area, buy their Microcell for $150 so 3g will work in my home and load my ISP, and I can continue to drop calls daily. I’ve just been with ATT after Cingular and changing is always a crap shoot. But I sure like the way the Verizon MiFi2200 is getting me data where ATT has no 3g. I’d have to checkout who has tweeked their tilt2. I had the 1st Tilt just as it came out but traded it as I never could get the ear piece volume loud enough – loved the phone though.

Because vast swaths of the US are only covered by one carrier? For example, the only carrier available to me is ATT.

The biggest reason I go with ATT is GSM.

CDMA is just not an option for anyone who travels internationally as all. At least Verizon tries to claim it’s ‘world edition’ phones, but that requires a separate SIM card and phone number. No thanks. I’ll take my local US # with me when I travel thank you.

So for now, the choice is ATT or Tmobile. That’s it. And say what you will about ATT, they still have the most complete GSM network in America.

When Verizon finally gets on the worldwide standard for 4G, I’ll start looking at them again. (even Canadian carriers are ditching CDMA)

Sprint is dead forever for me since they chose a 4G standard that almost no other country will be using.

I guess the question is why would you want it on any carrier? Oh because your carrier doesn’t have the iPhone? :P

In all seriousness though if I were forced to carry a WinMo device this would be it. It feel like a million bucks and the touch flo actually sorta works which is nice. 6.5 brings a host of visual improvements which I really liked.

I believe the CDMA versions have GSM anyways….

So even though I’m a an AT&T subscriber, I’d have some issues paying for the Tilt. But then again, I’m off contract, and I already have an X1…so the Tilt2 doesn’t bring much to the table.

Why AT&T over the other 3?
    1. Brain damage
    2. Incessant need to pay more money for less quality/coverage.
    3. Want to go over sees and want to keep your American phone number but too stupid to use call forwarding.
    4. Some shady back-door deal that makes putting up with all of AT&Ts B.S. worth the trouble.

For me, I’d go with AT&T for the T2. Really for two reasons. #1 Can I pop my iPhone 3GS sim in and have a go – meaning my data and text plan follows or will they try to jack me because it’s not an iphone? And if #1 is okay, then #2 is because where I live and work, AT&T is the only capable provider. When I was getting VZ FIOS installed at my new house up here in the mountains, the VZ guy said he had to go down the street so his Aircard would work so he can provision my fiber.

I’m not saying AT&T is the greatest. I just have a new tower 200 yards away and for the life of me the single strenth of the other providers don’t exist at all.

    Go figure.

Well the Verizon version has Quadband GSM in addition to CDMA, so yea, I guess that leaves the Tilt2 with a tilting screen, oh wait…

@Phug, its not neccessarily about being able to keep your number, its also about being able to put in a pre-paid sim card w/o having to buy another phone.

But anyways, like I’ve said, you still get that option from both T-Mobile and Verizon… so you have cheaper options no matter what.

    @shane

Tour/storm on VZW are world phone and nothing else is needed. Just got back and used my # the whole trip. Data was only $20 extra for the month, however calls are .99 per minute. A voicemail message that says “out of country, send me an email” prevents a huge use of minutes. If you do talk a lot then you would want to get a local prepaid sim and you have the option.

For me the best reason to go GSM version is because of the hacking community. There is more developement and support for GSM ROMs over at XDA. And AT&T 3G is better than T-Mobile.

Well i got mine through Verizon and my price as a VIP customer was 149.99 for this device…. And i was able to confirm it was because i was a VIP customer. I love the verizon version they didnt cripple it and they didnt load it down with useless software. They cant seem to keep it in stock but thats ok its a popular phone on a very popular carrier. I travel all over the United States and have never dropped a call in the 7 years ive been with Verizon.

Well…the TP2 on att is the only one with the 850/1900 3G bands meaning you get the fastest speeds in Canada, Mexico, basically all of South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.

I don’t particularly care for WinMo (or at least HTC starts bringing out capacitive screens since 6.5 & 7 will support them) because I prefer Android, but I’d get this on Sprint. I’d pay more for it over the other carriers because of Sprint’s network quality. Screw that whole “international traveling” thing because CDMA isn’t used across the world. I think GSM is horrible. All the GSM networks in the United States are all crap in terms of quality. CDMA is superior. Sprint’s just better for data speeds (as BGR has already shown back in Aug. ‘09), plus for the quality, their prices are incredibly competitive. I don’t travel overseas, but if I were so fortunate to do so, I’d never use my phone overseas because that’s just stupid. The international rates are silly. I’d just buy a cheap GSM pre-paid phone and use it for the time I’m there, and if it’s worth it, keep it for the next trip & if not, toss it. Also, Wi-Max may not be the most adopted 4G mobile technology, but it’s easily able to be converted to LTE if the need arises, as Sprint’s already stated.

I got my Tilt 2 for just $175! Here’s how:

Yesterday, here in Washington DC I can’t find a single store with it in stock. Only 1 store even has a single example for display!

    If at first…

If you happen to have an expired contract, or are just a good customer, give this a try – I got my Tilt 2 for only $175!

Here’s how. I called AT&T, asked to speak to Customer Retention, FYI my monthly total is about $120 and my contract was up. Got a nice guy called Alex and told him I wnated to get the phone, and since my contract was up I was looking around for the best deal. I mentioned T Mobile and Verizon both have the same phone and I was willing to jump ship for a good price.

At first he was able to get it down to a net after rebates of $250. I winged a bit and suggested he try again as I thought I could do better elsewhere. He went off to talk to someone (a Supervisor I guess) and came back with the following:

    $350 – $50rebate, -another $50 rebate, -10% + $224.99 plus a $50 mail in rebate to HTC for a net total of $174.99!

I couldn’t pry the actual rebate codes out of him, but feel free to press for the same deal!

Because the at&t logo looks so much cooler than the other carriers.

But seriously, AT&T is great in my area. I have no intention of switching to any other carrier when AT&T has my two favorite phones (this phone and iPhone).

Using a Verizon world phone doesn’t require using a separate number while overseas. The SIM is pre-installed and your number works automatically. To the end user, it’s seemless.

Okay, this isn’t really enough reason to pick AT&T over another carrier, but the keyboard layout is clearly superior for my use. I use those punctuation chars a lot more than the numbers.
