More T-Mobile Project Dark rumors: Financed phones?

tmo-project-dark-slide

As we inch closer to the day when Project Dark is finally realized, we’re getting more news regarding what it is and what it definitely isn’t. In addition to what we’ve reported with network speed boosts, unlimited rate plans and new devices, we’re hearing that getting the device of your dreams is going to be easier than ever. It’s definitely an unconfirmed rumor right now and we’re working on getting more solid details for you guys, but apparently “Even More Plus” will give those who would otherwise qualify for FlexPay the option to finance a phone. It sounds crazy, right? Our sources tell us that the phones will not be subsidized and so there won’t be contracts for the devices, which means you pay the full retail price over the course of a set amount of time (up to 20 months is what we’re told). Not bad — for a $500 device over that time is just $25/month, as an example.

We’re also hearing that the “Most Affordable Unlimited Rate Plans” are going to include three tiers of unlimited options: unlimited voice, unlimited voice and text, and unlimited voice/text/data all priced at $40, $50 and $60, respectively. Again, none of this is completely confirmed, but it does jive with what we’ve been hearing in the past and the ad pictured above. With plans, pricing and financing like that, is it possible for T-Mobile to shoot its way out of 4th place and past Sprint for 3rd?

I hope that Sprint starts stepping up its game… Of course, coverage on T-Mobile is still pretty spotty based on what I know.

I can’t wait for this project to get confirmed and rolled out! I definitely think that these changes can help Tmobile push past sprint. With these kinds of prices and award winning customer service…..this could even provide some needed competition for ATT and Verizon as well.

Wow those unlimited plans are pretty good but it would have definitely been a killer had it have been everything unlimited for $50. But $60 does sound somewhat more reasonable/realistic. Hopefully, these rumors are true.

Maybe, they’ll announce a new device exclusively for that plan! Maybe it’ll be the Motorola Cliq. 

I hope that $60 data plan would include smart phones as well! That would make tmobile $40 a month cheaper than sprint’s unlimited everything? I can’t see how sprint would be able to compete.

    Perspective says:

Yeah good luck with that. T-Mobile customers have bad credit (on average) for a reason. Mitsubishi tried this years ago with their auto division (no payments for 1 year, etc) and it blew up in their face.

If they don’t hurry up with the 3G deployment, all the great pricing and whatever else they do will keep them what they are to me today….irrelevant. I live in Albany, NY and still no 3G here. Plus, the funky spectrum frequencies require a T-Mo branded phone. They’ve never done well creating good UI’s and made some utterly useless.

if you are financing phones and no contracts, then there must be some catch with some type of insurance fees.

I currently have sprint, and while many ppl dont like them, they get the job done for me. Pretty zippy data speeds in my area (a bit west of Chicago) and pretty decent service. If Tmo were to have a plan comparable to mine (450 min [unlimited min to any cell phone] and unlimited texts for $69) if they were to have all that for 40 or 50….id think bout switching. however id have to test their network, 3g network, and their data speeds first.

why no unlim text/data for 40 or 50, then i could just use google voice!

I don’t see the big deal about financing a phone. Who wants an extra $25 tacked on to their bill (btw your $25/$500 example has 0 interest, which wouldn’t make much sense), if you really wanted to finance, you could use a credit card, and if you can’t get credit or your rates are too high, it’s time to step away and reconsider priorities instead of buying a high priced toy

@Perspective. Dude not all the T-Mobile customers live in your trailer park. Get out of the park and look around a bit more. There is a whole new world out there.

If I am going to pay full retail for a phone, it will be a phone straight from the manufacturer (HTC, Nokia, etc). Why pay full retail for a phone T-Mobile will more then likely handicap? ie No Voip over the 3G network.

… those plans sound right on time but this whole un-subsidezed phone thing is sounding a little ify….say the nokia n900 one of these phones & the flat out price ends up being 750.00 hypothetically paying for that phone over time would damn near equate to haveing it subsidized to 299.99 with one of there original plans wouldn’t it?

Perspective, I think YOU need a little perspective you Butt wipe. Just because you’re a poor junkie ATT customer with no Coverage and rather pay your cell phone bill than your Utilities doesn’t mean you have to lie MOron.

    jonathan says:

Yeah but the benefit is not being tied down to a contract, which is what people who would pick that don’t like. They might not mind paying full price over time if they can say bye whenever they want for another cool phone on another carrier. The N900 maybe be an expensive example, but with other phones the Even More plan + no etf could save money in comparison to a contract and etf.

60$ AYCE with a smartphone is awesome. coverage might be an issue, but should improve with time. I, as a consumer, will support the business plan that best represents this consumer’s priorities. that’s how capitalism works, folks, you vote with your money. sweet fetal jesus would people get with the times!

God i hope tmobile beats sprint, I am absolutely disgusted with the customer service by Sprint, they treat us like absolute shit just because we are on SERO, if Sprint finally gains some PERSPECTIVE to 4th and began its spiraling fall to death then maybe they will start valuing ALL their customers

I have a tip that the pricing is going to start at 50 for unlimted talk and go up 10 bucks for each new feature capping at 70 for unlimited talk/text/data.

I haven’t heard anything about the financed handsets. I’ll inquire further.

Right on Galen20k. I have been with T-mob for 5 yrs, nothing to do with credit or job just that I understand cellphones are a luxury. So, I thought paying less for a luxury with better coverage was smart. Hmm, go figure. I will definitely appreciate the upgrade on the data speed though.

    PRock says:

I think it’s funny people complain about lack of service indoors with Tmobile. Guess what, if you turn the UMA function on with devices that have it, it links the signal to your wifi and you have full service. And be honest, many many many people DO have wifi. Plus, if you wanted to have it not take those minutes out of your plan, you get hotspot@home. Even with that, if you’re still complaining about lack of coverage outside, that’s probably because you’re out in the sticks. Maybe cellphone coverage should be the least of your concerns, hillbilly.

    Roger A says:

T-Mobile’s customer base has bad credit?

Flexpay is for people who either

    A) Dont have the BEST credit for the larger deposit T-Mobile usually requires

    B) Dont want a contract, or the best phone, but want a cheap plan and a phone to get by

    C) People like me who want to test out a provider before signing up in the long term. Sorry, sometimes 30 days isnt long enough, and FlexPay monthly for a few months gives me that flexability for coverage checking

And just so majority of you know, Sprint customers typically have the worst credit. I know, Im one of them. I also know that their MAX deposits are $150, compared to T-Mobile, whos up to $500 for a regular plan.

    So think about it…
