TELUS’ initial HSPA offering to be smartphone rich

With employee HSPA training well under way, one of our TELUS connects hit us up late last night to let us know just what smartphone hungry Canadians can expect once its HSPA network overlay goes live next month. Apart from the obvious ones – iPhone 3G and 3GS — TELUS will be dishing out the BlackBerry Bold 9700, LG Chocolate BL40 and the Nokia E71 (odd, we know). Road warriors should also note that TELUS will be offering the Sierra Wireless 306 USB data stick which is capable of taking full advantage of TELUS’ 21Mbps HSPA network. Okay, fine, rumors about many of these devices coming to TELUS aren’t exactly new, but we’re the first to be able to confirm this 100%. Just one more thing…. We’ve been told that the HTC Hero is definitely in TELUS’ play book and it’s going to be the GSM/HSPA variant.

@Riley Freeman
We love giving credit. Just ask any of the thousands upon thousands of people that have sent us in information. We make it a point to ask if they’d like credit for the tip and we always cite other sites. While we make best efforts to always cross-check tips that are sent in, it’s not physically possible to know if someone somewhere at sometime had posted the same information that was sent in to us.
You did not send us in the tip. It came from someone else who did not link us to your site. If you or they had done so, we most certainly would have wrote it up and linked to you.
I’ve added a link to your post now as a courtesy to you.
Thanks!
its so funny some people make nonsense comments about Canada and their network while they’ve never been in Canada and they say “MY FRIEND IN CANADA SAID THIS OR THAT or told me this or that” in my experience with Bell and rogers/fido, I had both phones in my pocket one with Bell and the other with Fido (which is also owned by rogers or robbers as we like to call them) the one with Fido/rogers always had better coverage then the one on Bell I do admit however I did traveling around mostly in Ontario so i’m not sure about other provinces in Canada but in Ontario I’ve had better luck with Fido/rogers than Bell but with the new network that might change i’m not sure, we will see I guess what happens
Bell is doing this for the Olympics not Telus, as they are the Official Sponsor. Telus is along for the ride with Bell’s Olympic push. Great move on Telus’ part, as they are getting the benefits of the network upgrade without spending all that money on the sponsorship (only on the network partnership). Bell really needed the Olympic Sponsorship as they were Sh!t in B.C before it.
My question is will my Telus Blackberry Tour be upgraded the new GSM Telus network or will it still be on their CDMA one? It has both radios inside?
SanMan… the tour will NOT work on the HSPA network.
Theo,
Why do you say the Tour will not work on the HSPA network? Do you know this for a fact? Look at the Specs of the Tour below. The Tour HAS a HSPA radio. My question is will it be updated to use this network as the default.

The TELUS Blackberry tour operates on HSPA 2100 MHZ overseas, TELUS new HSPA network will operate 850/1900 MHZ in North America.
Thus, the Blackberry Tour, will NOT work on the new HSPA network.
@ Boy Genius
I can’t say how disappointed I am in your website for not crediting THE ORIGINAL LEAK.
Too bad this isn’t REAL media, or else your asses would be sued.
Go ahead and delete this, JUST AS YOU DELETED ALL OTHER POSTS WHICH SAID RILEY WAS THE original supplier.
@Arjun
Maybe you missed my comment above? Maybe you missed the Read link actually linking to the site which that person is claiming to have posted the news before us?
Maybe you missed the fact that was all done as a courtesy in good faith, even though the information was reported exclusively to us at the time?
Maybe you should go away? You’re like four days late anyway.
Shari,
I think your the last thing your friends should be jealous of is your Iphone
