HTC Hero hitting Verizon in November?

verizon-htc-hero

We just got a tip that the phone pictured in Eric Schmidt’s hands is actually Verizon’s version of the HTC Hero and it will be called the HTC Hero (not confirmed). As you can see, there’s a couple hardware modifications and one big one is that the buttons below the screen are, as we’re told, not physical, but touch-sensitive buttons. Look for it to drop in November on Big Red.

UPDATE: We’ve doubled confirmed this — check for the HTC Hero (or a different name) in November on Verizon! P.S. We have been told “It’s awesome.”

Does anyone know whether Verizon’s Hero will be a World Phone? This phone looks interesting, but it would be a non-starter for me if it doesn’t have world phone capabilities.

@M. this will not be a world phone given the limitations of Verizon’s network and I doubt they’ll throw a separate GSM radio in it for Europe.

Also, as stated above, this device will not be called the Hero. It will most likely be called the HTC Desire. The UI will be the only thing in common between this phone (the Desire) and the HTC Hero on Sprint.

Regardless, this is a great time to be able to shop around to different networks and use the same UI on different devices. It really gives you a baseline for comparison, which has been lacking in the wireless industry for, IDK, ever?

Now, that being said, we’re gonna start to get a lot of devices that look real similar over the next 2 years because there’s only so much you can do when the front of your phone is a touchscreen. Although, I would like to see an additional front facing camera on all of these devices for self portrait and video calls…

It is only dual band (GSM 800/1900) as its released with Sprint version, which is not the same as Europe version (Quad band). I was very eager to buy sprint’s hero, but they dropped to dual band, which is pretty much useless for me, since I travel to other countries needing quad band.

No one at Verizon stores knows when this puppy is coming out or the price. What will compete with the iphone the best. The Hero (my choice), droid or calgary?

I just went to spring today and was informed that yes sprint as well as many other companies have free roaming but.. & this is a BIG but… if you are roaming more than 51% of the time when using their network or any other network they will send you a letter saying your service is no longer welcome due to the regulations set by the FCC! I think that’s garbage but that is why sprint is not getting my business since I live in a roaming zone it would never work… just a lil FYI for ya

If you have 2 phones with att, the unlimited data on a feature phone is now $10 per line, not $15/line. This is only if you are family planning the lines. Saves you $10 for two lines,, Ya!!
