Bell and TELUS officially announce they will be carrying the iPhone 3G and 3GS next month

bellus

After receiving approximately 100 emails on the subject, we obviously obliged. Like we said yesterday, the iPhone is coming to both Bell and TELUS next month. The price of the handsets, the plans that they require and specific release dates have not been mentioned. Those partial to TELUS can click here to sign up for an emailing list that we’re sure will be neither prompt nor informative, while those who are all about Bell will have to wait until Bell updates its website. For one stupid reason or another they’re still hyping up the Palm Pre. Smooth.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

    Verizon will need to launch a HSPA network to get it, because that’s what the two major CDMA provider in Canada did.

    This marks the official dominance of UMTS/HSPA in Canada with nearly every carrier (including those that haven’t yet launched) having a network with this technology.

    @jaydee
    There’s still no CDMA iPhone, so no. I doubt there will ever be a CDMA iPhone since it’s a dead end technology.

    Verizon will NEVER launch an UMTS/HSPA network – it’s totally pointless – it already has the best EVDO network in the world. And it will have the largest LTE network – yes WiMax is already up and running on Sprint, but Sprint can’t compare to Verizon in terms of the sheer size of the company. If that means that we won’t get the iPhone on Verizon until LTE, that’s fine – but I can’t wait for Verizon to get the iPhone. I’m ready to ditch my BlackBerry.

    Bell will be the fist network in the world to have iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre and BlackBerry 9700. Excellent handset selection.

    Glad to know that both are getting it. On a side note, it’ll be nice to actually have a choice in 3G roaming in Canada now when Rogers doesn’t have adequate signal.

    Nice we have all these fancy phones… but Canada is all about THREE year contracts and much higher prices. OH, and theres a stretch of highway from Calgary to Toronto where you really won’t find a bit of 3G coverage. Its only about 3000km (1,800 miles….)

    So what’s wrong with hyping the Pre? Are you suggesting they should start selling just one phone??? How did you get this job?

    name one innovative thing that the iPhone has done? At least Palms trying to do something that mixes around the playing field. All these direct attacks at Palm are pathetic. I like apple products, don’t get me wrong, but this blatant attempt at fanboyism is immensly stupid. Go do something real on an iPhone, instead of playing with stupid apps. And I’ll say it, after using my palm pre, I cany go back to an iPhone, it feels so primative its not even funny.

    With T-Mobile USA to pass the 208 million POPS mark with HSDPA and HSPA networks with a completion by next year, I would love to see an iPhone with the added 1700/2100 MHz chipset.

    T-Mobile has a huge youth demographic who would absolutely love to use it on their network of choice. I could also see users unhappy with ATT’s network migrating over to T-Mobile as well assuming T-Mobile works well in that particular area.

    With AWS becoming a standard all throughout the Americas, this band will soon be a common sight on new global handsets.

    I agree with @JohnBoy. It’s great that they now have HSPA and can support the iPhone, but what’s going to happen when there’s no HSPA signal? Do they have roaming agreements with rival Rogers?

    Spanky says:

    I guess this marks the beginning of the end of the Pre in Canada. Most people who buy one do so because they’re tied to Bell or Telus, and can’t get an iPhone. Well, now that reason’s gone. Canada will belong to Apple and RIM, and Palm will slowly (or not so slowly) fade out. Bye Palm!

    I’ve heard that Bell’s launching their hspa to cover 93% of the population already, so I dont think it will need to roam. Plus there overlapping

    @Steel

    Did YOU hear, or read rather. This post in no way relates to Verizon.

    In fact its about Canada, so no ones gonna care about your comment, let alone that OS.
