As a BBYM employee, I have to say we aren’t treated horrible. I wouldn’t trade that job to work in a corporate store for anything. We may not get commission but there are other incentives which make working at BestBuy better for an employee who isn’t willing to push and push customers to buy products they don’t need. At BestBuy I can help a customer purchase products that are right for them, which in some cases means a free flip phone and in other cases it means a $200 smart phone. Not only do corporate stores urge employees to sell more expensive phones, they strongly push accessories to further their commission.

Just to clear up speculation…

Ive personally worked different management positions for about 4 years now and currently am. As far as BBYM mobile goes..with the merger of carphone warehouse the unrivaled phone store of europe , BB Mobile has began capturing more and more customers. no company i have ever worked for has provided more benefits and prizes and trips and recognition…therefore, commission was never a need when i worked hourly stocking DVDS. The reason being…along with no rebates, Reward Zone, free data transfers, smartphone setups and price matching…competitors find it very hard to compete. In the end, a non commissioned sales environment is a more customer friendly environment and i think mostly all of us can agree with that.

We do have some great phones coming out and each BBYM does not have live phones for multple reasons…expenses…theft…etc…howevever, most stores keep live demos of the major phones in their cabinets…i for one have the pre..instinct hd, 3gs, tour, bold, env3, etc…

and in the 50+ stores ive seen training or being trained …any bb associate wil gladly open and fire up any phone for you to demo

i agree the experience may differ from BB to BB buy majority of BB at least on the west coast for my knowledge, is very aggressive and would honor any loyalty deal if it menat pleasing a customer and retaining the business to prove a higher level of service.

Iphone will not be on verizon! period….possible 2011 or 12. just go pop in a verizon SIm from their GSM compatible phones and get your verizon logo haha…

Haven’t been in a BB for 13 years — their customer service sucked so bad they pissed me off and have lost at least $18 grand in business because of it, and I have no plans to change that pattern.

When the regional offices’ voice mail is so full of complaints that you can’t leave a message you know there is a problem! (Two separate occasions over a 2 year period).

Bestbuy mobile is actually a good place to shop for customers who are eligible for an upgrade or looking to switch carriers. Bestbuy won’t do mail and rebates, and they will price match other retailer offers. However, Bestbuy mobile is one of the worst place to work because these employees aren’t commissioned. Bestbuy doesn’t treat their employees right, and they are kind of using them. At least that’s how I felt when I was employee. Bestbuy is able to do no mail and rebate cause they pay less money to their employees, and they will cut the cost of the phone. Because of this, not many employees at bestbuy are not very good at what they do. Employees aren’t commissioned? True. But, they are not as knowledgeable as other employees at cooperate stores.

The local Best Buy price matches almost any deal Verizon threw at me. I finally got it through Best Buy because:
A: Mail in rebates suck.
B: I have a rewards zone card
C: Employees aren’t commissioned. They offer, but don’t push stuff.

Well all of you implying that you work for BBM should let management know that BBM employees in Virginia don’t know the rules about NE2. I spoke with at least two different employees at 3 different stores each and ALL were quite clear that they do not extend Verizon NE2 device discounts to those wishing to buy a Tour back when it launched. I was VERY specific in my questioning, and the answers were very specifically NO.

So BBM’s loss, not mine, got my Tour at a Verizon store instead.

@ jaydee verizon isnt going to get the iphone anytime soon. they most likely will wait til the world goes to LTE (which it will in the next decade) and there wont be anymore GSM/CDMA difference. Apple also probably wont design a CDMA based Iphone due to the fact that they can create 1 GSM based phone and sell it almost everywhere (only the band frequencies are different, and thats just for AT&T…its all GSM based). i wouldnt wait for an iphone on VZW….or even a tablet. Apple would be stupid to make the tablet on VZW…that effectively pushes out all the iphone users as youd need another contract etc to have it. just wouldnt make business sense. .

I just don’t get why Best Buy won’t make the necessary arrangements to have live demo units in their stores? I mean, for instance, the Instinct HD which is only being sold in their store for a short time, as well as another Sprint phone the HTC Hero. The iPhone 3G & now, the iPhone 3GS have live demo units on display working on WI-FI in their stores for people to test out, but anything else, usually, they’re out of luck. Just doesn’t make sense. Although I have purchased a phone from Best Buy mobile, I’d buy from them again, but I’d first test out a live unit on demo at a corporate store of the provider I’m with.
