Pre-order your Nokia E72 NAM from Amazon today

nokia-e72-NAM-amazon

Let’s face it. Unless you’re really into BlackBerrys and have your heart set on the Bold 9700, you don’t really have a whole lot of choices for a new candybar QWERTY smartphone. But that’s just fine with us, because Nokia’s E72, the successor in every sense of the word to the much loved E71, is now up for pre-order on Amazon. No, it’s not some crappy Euro version that likes to play “football” and drink tea; this is a real red meat eating, red, white and blue NAM edition. It’s unlocked, $469, comes in any color you like so long as it’s Zodium Black and seems destined to sell a lot of units. Why? Because Nokia has discovered just how easy it is to move handsets through fire sales.

My love for Nokia pulls me towards pressing the pre order button. On the other hand I know that amazon won’t get it to me any time before nokiausa gets it to me with a marginal price difference. So, I shall wait till it pops up on nokiausa.com an order it then. Also, I am going to get the 9700 bold but hopefully that comes to AT

E72 is cheaper than E71 when it first came out. I hope rogers pick it up.

I really like the Nokia devices. They are very sleek and stylish and I don’t hear a lot of complaints about them. I wish that they would produce a touchscreen device similar to the iPhone.

I have a Nokia E71 and find that the Email using Nokia messaging is not as reliable as the Blackberry which my collegue has. My collegue’s blackberry has never failed and the email gets delivered much faster to it that her PC. However, there are multiple issues with Nokia messaging and the emails get delayed by hours sometimes. It also does not work well using GPRS… However the Nokia devices look much better than the blackberry and have much better features such as 3G etc. My sense it that the blackberry software and service is much better suited for email while Nokia will take time to catch up…

I am based in India and use AIRCEL as my provided and my comments are based on my experience.

I had Nokia E71x with AT&T. I had no such issues about email getting delivered late. It used to appear in my phone inbox as fast as my MAC mail.
Also Nokia are constantly improving their messaging service for their E-series business devices.

E72 is a worthy successor and in all respects a must-upgrade option for any E71 owner.

For users in India we need to connect to the Nokia Servers in Finland and perhaps that is causing the delay compared to the AT&T network which must be hosting the email servers locally in the US. We use it on GPRS as well as we do not have 3G networks in India yet.

Under GPRS in India (AIRCEL), the emails get delayed significantly and often don’t deliver at all unless you reset the phone. It is likely that Nokia messaging needs much more bandwidth compared to Blackberry.

The E72 looks very good and I am tempted to upgrade, but am truly worried if it will work well under Indian conditions…

I cannot comment on the Servers topic that you mentioned above. But i think Nokia must be having servers outside Finland too, it can’t be just Finland.
I guess, for this Nokia messaging delay that you are experiencing there, it is best to discuss with a Nokia care and i mean not a care center, but like calling their technical support phone number. (do they have in India or its just Nokia care centers only).
I don’t know which city are you in, but i think Brighthand and/or HCL have taken over the Nokia Care responsibilities,is it true? You can talk to Level 3 care support(which i believe is only in Delhi currently).

I know all this, since i was a Nokia Care Engineer before 5 yrs.

    Thanks Hary.

I did get in touch with them and they mentioned that they were planning to launch Nokia Messaging in India through AIRTEL (I use AIRCEL). I should say that the service works much better when I use it over Wifi and the message delivery is quick most of the time. It is likely that Nokia messaging needs much more bandwidth (3G) than the Blackberry which is optimized on GPRS networks.

I will wait for Nokia to release their messaging services formally in India over AIRTEL and then provide additional feedback on whether the problems that I have faced over GPRS have been solved.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Ashok
