Ya I must agree with Don Louie. I could really couldn’t care less about this. Palm does have balls like John said up top, and I also agree with his take on this POS website. It appears BGR is fair to everyone but Palm. I too will never visit this fucked up site again. If all you fan boys want to reply to me it doesn’t matter, I will not see it. So slam away. It is funny I always say the iPhone is a nice phone, just not one I think is the best. Maybe once but not now. My opinion, I can have it. Oh and BTW, this sight has established itself in the prediction world as “Chief Crap Distributor”, so maybe you all need to stop with your shit rumors… (That is why I came here to see why the dumb article predicts Oct. 20th, when Sprint releases phones on Saturdays) Fucking Idiots!!!

Ok, this is just getting stupid. Every one of you who is whining about Apple “locking competitors out of their music libraries” has obviously not done your homework.
Apple allows full access, read and write, to the iTunes library. That’s how Blackberry does it, and many other devices. The library is published with a fully documented, open, and public XML document that any software maker can access.
What Palm is doing is a nasty hack because they can’t support their customers well enough to actually write software for them.
You are all crowing about them being too cheap to do the work themselves, and instead acting like a parasite on software written by Apple.
Ridiculous.

How dare Apple spend millions of their own dollars to create a successful solution between their hardware and software and not give it to the competition for free. Who do they think they are.

I think all successful tech companies should have to spend millions of their own dollars to write the competitions software for them. It’s only fair because they’re successful. Right?

Palm is just showing what bottom feeders they are. whether you like Apple or not, they owe their competitors nothing. There isn’t any Anti trust. There isn’t a Monopoly. Apple is just very successful. Last time I checked, it wasn’t a crime.

Palm should change their name to Carp. It fits. And on a bad day they can change the spelling to Crap. It also fits.

With 50,000,000 iPhone/iPod touch users. I don’t think Apple is worried about losing the Pre’s smallish user base.

Apple owes them nothing! Write your own software Carp, I mean Crap, I mean Palm. If you can that is. RIM did.

Yeah ok.. so? At least Video recording can be BROUGHT ton the Pre with a firmware update unlike my 3G which is SOL, I should just buy a 3G S if I want that because the 3G is totally incapable (LOL!).
Now a little over a year later and the iPhone 3G is within the same price range as a Nokia flip phone

personally, i don’t think palm is giving the best impression to its customers by having a feature that works off and on, and while enabling itunes sync doesn’t seem to be too difficult for them, i still think they could probably be using their limited resources for something better

that said, i’m still all for this because i just love that palm is the little company with the kahones to stand up to apple and in this case on an issue that most people agree with palm on, apple has gotten too full of themselves lately by trying to lock down and control everything, palm seems to be the anti-apple when it comes to a lot of the things i dislike about apple

Pre is out about half a year and still not in EU? they are not able to sell it worldwide, even when they struggling to stay in the smartfone market,thay should focus on their problems and stop fighting with Apple, it’s an Apple’s pruduct anyway-ithe tunes-,Palm should use it’s own one and SHOULD !finally be sold all over the world,as iphone already is,and nokia phones and so on.

quite honestly I am sure that Palm already has some form of app ready made or in the works to sync media/contacts universally on both Windows & OS X. But having this controversy in the news only broadens the public awareness of Palm while really only being a detriment to Apple…so for Palm…why not ride the wave till right before it crashes to shore only to surf in safely to the beach? (and probably look for the next big Wave?)

if anyone can’t see the point for Pre price reductions I believe its this:
First of all everyone is asking why isn’t the Pixi introduced already –
The Pixi will introduced at the same time as a GSM/CDMA Pre coming very soon….most likely this will be a Pre wish memory expansion options or tiered Pre’s in the memory/features mode along with an updated OS?)…the delayed Pixi introduction would make a lot more sense with this…this would make alot of sense also coinciding with the current Pre model price reductions etc….new Pre will be probably 149.99..Pixi..79.99 or 99.99 both of course on contract (pre 16 or 32 gb)…just saying!

John, 1) the build doesn’t make it bad just fragile 2) video is coming and a lot faster than the 3 years the iphone took while voice recognition is nice it’s not a killer feature 3) They haven’t even released any #’s to fudge 4) The Storm, G1 and most notably the iphone had price reductions soon after release also 5) what do selling stock have to do with a device being bad or not, good try though. Not one of the listed reasons qualify as underperforming

Lets just say what Palm really is and what it has:

*A struggling company which has put all of its resources into:
*A great platform in WebOS which noone with any credibility that I have seen has disputed
*A partner in Sprint with which is shares a lot of qualities: a dwindling customer base, strong competition, a great CEO, great service(s), a lot to lose
*A lot of speculation surrounding its future endeavors which until verified are essentiality mist in the wind
*A lot of people with very little knowledge attacking which is a rapidly moving target
*An attractive acquisition for a lot of large companies looking for a partner with the above listed qualities

NOW what is Palm not:
*going anywhere any time soon despite the disparagements of people with little of knowledge of what is reality

1. poor build quality
2. missing features (video recording, voice commands))
3. palm fudging sell through numbers
4. The Pre being out < 6 mos. and already being discounted to $99

To finish my thought, is it really in Apple’s self interest to piss off a lot of customers for the sake of a legal argument? I think given the fact that they own such a large portion of of the media player market and an increasingly large portion of the smartphone market – and more so the product consciousness of the buying public for those products, they need to be very careful that this doesn’t blow up in their faces in multiple ways. Given that Apple isn’t very good at compromising, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I am not sure Apple should use what is legally within their right as their metric for dealing with this situation. Lets be clear – iTunes (not Apple in terms of branding consciousness) is the number one purveyor of music now in the US. While Palm COULD write an app to allow them to sync purchased/managed content from PC’s and Macs, its not the same as having the Pre sync directly from iTunes. The way Palm has done it is a bit sneaky and brazen and should get some push back from Apple. Apple needs to be careful here though. Monopoly is something thats on the tongues of the justice department right now in reference to Apple already. iTunes is not OS X. A big portion of it is installed on Windows machines. Blocking access to intellectual properties not owned by Apple — iTunes is the purchase and distribution method for the content — opens some possible doors to legal action against Apple I am fairly certain. While there are ways to circumvent iTunes to access the content u have purchased are available you could say that a consumer shouldn’t have to have to install those methods in order to put the content on their media player. Now that Apple is seemingly looking to not just provide music and video content but also rumored to be looking at extending themselves into what was once only print media, they need to be very very careful. Jobs himself has said they want to be DRM-free. It could be argued that without downloading separate software to get access to your purchased media on a player other than Apple’s own, iTunes itself becomes the DRM stumbling block. How does that look to an impressionable ad fickle buying public regardless of the legalities of it all? My argument is that something has to give on Apple’s side.

I have to agree with the majority on this one. Palm is making a good product and trying to appeal to the users who don’t understand how to use work arounds (for iTunes or whatever else) but still want a nice smartphone. Blackberry is doing the same thing with their new Desktop Manager for Mac. Why not shit on them? I have to say that as much as I like reading BGR there is a line. Get a handle on your biased writers or we’re going elsewhere.

Yes, it is ballsy of palm. They continue to use their customers in a cat and mouse game rather than just develop their own, supported, sync mechanism. Apple has every right to prevent unauthorized access to it’s iPod protocols, especially in light of the fact that every other vendor uses the supported methods. Palm is asking to be sued either by Apple or a class action suit by users who can’t use one of the major features half the time.

Hey did you know the Palm Pre has this nifty little feature where you can drag and drop files onto the device?
By keeping the iTunes sync alive all Palm is doing is giving their users an extra way to sync their phones with the computer.

There is no need for “Evidence”. It’s pure ignorance. Besides the cheap slider mechanism, the Pre’s power is nothing to sneeze at. At the least it can walk, chew bubble gum, take out the trash, and juggle pre-me’s at the same time. Can’t say that for the iPhone of which I have.

Also – to all the people doing the flaming on Apple “Fanboys”, your comments are unoriginal and nonsensical. I am a happy Apple user and have “bought in” pretty heavily to the Apple ecosystem of products. i think you will find most modern Apple product owners that have a decent amount of knowledge are pretty rational and pragmatic about their approach to tech. After all I am as an example – very excited about what looks like a good product in Windows 7 and am impressed by the Zune HD. Good competitive products from the competition are what are needed to push Apple to innovate even further. I must say I am pretty disappointed by how Apple is handling the Pre-iTunes sync thing.
