Reminder: BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac goes live at 1PM ET
Well Mac users, it’s been one hell of a journey but as of 1PM ET today, an era official ends. No longer will be you able to complain out of frustration that RIM hates you simply because you don’t tow the line and use Windows. Oh, no. Today, “MacBerry” users will finally have their day in the sun as BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac is released. We’ve already given you our thoughts on it (recap: it’s faster and more simple than Desktop Manager for Windows, but doesn’t really offer anything in the way of support for BES users or those who like to tinker) so all there is left for you to do is download it and enjoy.

Um, wireless sync? the thing called “bluetooth”. the “missing” sync. um, photos? just move them automatically to a folder – i don’t give a s%^t about iPhoto, um, like, missing sync?
So you are saying this will not work with Snow Leopard
This is a work in progress…
MAc os adress book is a joke, granted. So to sync it with entourage or any other tool on the mac or online , one has to first sync it MacOS contact, then sync it.
I did manage to do a sync, however, it was a pain and not straiforward. At least a number of connectors should be built into the tool as it was the case on the PC version.
Also, there is no one way sync: from device to Mac or from Mac to device.
I wanted to use the mac to sync the BB, but I am going to back to the PC version.
DM for the Mac is a step backwards for RIM.
The following shortcomings are obvious.
- No bluetooth syncing
- No photo, video, document sync
- No App World Integration
- Fewer options than Pocket Mac
- It disables Pocket Mac and Missing Sync
- You can do Device Updates OTA on Edge/3G, so why not over Bluetooth or Wifi using DM?
Pros
- Device Software Updates for Mac via USB
Cons
- Everything Else
- It’s almost 2010 for Pete’s sake.
Rubbish…
Time for a Drum Solo.
The software has actually caused me more grief than anything else. I’ve been a BB user and advocate for years now but there’s no denying it – RIM is slowly sinking. Going, Going…. Gone?
“The connected BlackBerry® device is not supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager.”
It took so long for that…unbelievable!
Wow, this software is a disaster. Much functionality is missing. It works, and thus is not a beta. But to call it a Desktop Manager is being generous…
When will the version for 10.4.11 be available?
