Sprint comes to its senses, cuts Touch Pro2 price to $199 starting October 1st

sprint-touch-pro2

When we first caught wind of Sprint’s HTC Touch Pro2 pricing, we had to do a triple-take. As we just confirmed with eCare however, Sprint is wisely bringing the ridiculous $349 price of the HTC Touch Pro2 down to $199.99 (after MIR) starting October 1st. With the BlackBerry Tour, upcoming HTC Hero and — most importantly — Verizon’s Pro2 coming in at $199, this move was absolutely necessary. The price drop isn’t just good news for Sprint customers though — it would be unbelievably silly of T-Mobile to maintain its $350 price after Sprint takes the leap and joins VZW at the $200 price point, and AT&T’s should come in at $200 as well. Oh, and there’s some good news for Sprint’s early adopters as well: Some Sprint customers who purchased the device within the last 30 days are also reporting that calling telesales and chatting with eCare online may score you a $100 credit.

Thanks, Roger A!

T-Mo would be wise to reduce the price below Sprint, Verizon, et al given the lack of a 3.5 mm head-phone jack.

Now all they need to do is follow the same logic w/the Diamond, Touch Pro and Instinct HD then things will be right

Will Best Buy ever carry this phone? If so it’s a slam dunk. $199 out the door can’t be beat. I hate MIRs. Makes it harder to talk my wife into it. I have to use the ‘it’s like putting a hundred dollars in a savings account with no interest’ line and that hardly works anymore. el oh el.

With it being end of life for the TP maybe they will reduce the price on it also. Or they may just do like they did with the mogul and run it out at full price until the end. I remember the Touch went to 50.00 at the very end of its life.

The Touch Pro was a winner in its day, but the Touch Pro 2 only adds a little more screen and a little more memory…while being released more than a year later. Same processor, etc. Incremental improvements shouldn’t take that long to make it to market.

I’m holding out for a Leo/HD2/Whatever Pro — give me that gargantuan (capacitive?) screen, that 1GHz goodness, and slap a keyboard under it, and I’m sold.

Oh yeah, give it to me on Verizon or AT&T by Q1 2010. :-p

this is great for SERO people because it looks like the Hero won’t be available for those on good ole SERO .

Also waiting for the Leo/HD2 with a WORKING keyboard. I second the comments about the TP2 not being a real big upgrade from the TP1.

Will keep waiting with broken keyboard TP2 in hand.

So, why can’t AT&T do this for their customers? This is really making me to switch carriers.

All 4 major carriers are going to carry the Touch Pro2 for $199.99 after MIR.

it depends steven.. on sero i get 500 mins 30 or 1250 mins for 50 with unlmited everything.. its also fair and flexible so overages are cheap.. if u need more mobile mins than u might as well leave sero now.. but sero is still the cheapest post paid plan on a nationwide carrier that offers decent mins and unl data text and pic mail

Sprint’s usually pretty good at giving credit to users who bought a phone at a higher price within 30 days of the price going down.

Can anyone provide proof of the $200 price after MIR?
No offense, but I don’t believe anything until I see it in writing.

I agree on both points recently made:

    1. The TP2 is NO upgrade from the TP.

    2. I’m waiting for a HD2 with a slide out QWERTY.

    Any news on the HD2/QWERTY?

    @ Steve

I just did the 70 dollar unlimited plan. i signed up to alliant credit union and got 10 percent of the bill. It used to be 25 percent. After talking on the phone then online i was finally able to get 25 percent off. So my next bill should come to about 53 dollars instead of 70.

Dear AT&T: Please be competitive and offer the TP2 at or below your competitors out the door. Or please do something unexpected and make the AT&T Pure be the HTC Leo.

verizon’s move was good. sprint follows ’cause they have new devices coming out so they have to drop it. as far as i recall at&t don’t even have this phone, is not an iphone competitor so no price drop there. t-mobile will have wm 65 coming out on 6th so they’ll drop it soon
