RIM confirms October 2nd launch date for Mac version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager

How about some great news to get your Wednesday in full swing, Mac-sporting BlackBerry addicts? RIM has just made it official — BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac will be released at 1PM ET on Friday. We already gave you a thorough preview of the highly anticipated software back in August so you know exactly what you’ve been waiting for: Good, clean, phone-managing sweetness. We’re still not sure what caused the delay but hey… RIM products wouldn’t be RIM products without a delay here and there, right? So, Mac/BlackBerry users, it looks like you’re just two short days away from having one less reason to use VMWare Fusion. Excited?

    you could still run osx and get a better experience than windows. plus the mac version of DM is faster and easier to use

    glad this is coming. tired of having to shell out $$ every time for the missing sync (not that it’s a bad program, it’s not, it’s great) at our all mac office. but yeah, this is way late to the game.

    I’m going to go out on limb here and say that most mac users probably use Iphone as their smartphones, but for the peeps with berry its great news.

    Ive been waiting on this for a while. I can finally switch back from my iphone now to a blackberry. I heard it has faster sync times as opposed to itunes.

    Been using this for a few weeks – it’s pretty nice looking (build 75) but often has “missing” calendar or contacts and i have to restore the phone data from my mac- hope that the release version is better and also wondering about photo sync? Used it with both 4.6 and 5.0.

    @ John Doe;
    Huh? Ur question made my brain stop, then turn around in my own skull, and now its facing backwards because of u which poses a slew of challenges to over come throughout the work day. I don’t know where to start with ur question so I’m gonna move onto my post and simply suggest that maybe u should buy a mac like everyone else. What do u think?…

    One thing I don’t know and I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere on the net is, will I be able to remove vendor files and so on from any carriers OS so to update my bb with the latest OS. I assume they will make .dmg files out of the software updates so I can install em and edit them…I don’t know, am talking smack or am I somewhere in the ball park.

    Still weak, no support for 10.4 which is uber lame.

    @maxpayne79

    The point of my question was not to ask how DM on a mac could help ME, but rather to ask BGR why they would post something that is irrelevant to ME? It is all about ME, so I expect only news and information that helps ME.

    I have the leaked version, and find that when I have sync’d, it jacks up my contacts, many of the fields do not come across to the BB. I get contact entries, but no phone numbers or emails. Also, in calendar, I end up with double the calendar entries, all renamed incorrectly…. Anyone else experience this?

    tom says:

    emayers: I see the same thing – it’s like using the old school Palm Desktop Software and get dup contacts and the famous “the calendar on your device is crazy different – should I just blow it out and start over?” – which is actually normally fine for me because i update from iCal but if I was on the road updating my calendar and this happened – I would be livid… I’m assuming Friday’s version won’t do this. But remember build 75 is the last I’ve seen – anyone have newer builds?

    Been using the beta for a few weeks now and I couldn’t be happier. Everything syncs OK and I used it to update my bold to the new official ATT firmware with VVM. I will def download the official version when it is released.

    I wonder if DM for Mac will be able to sync the 6 calendars in my iCal or not….

    I am a big mac user and new to BB tour. Very happy with this news as Pocket Mac has been mostly a headache. Fingers are crossed that this the answer.

    Brian J King says:

    Ditto on the calendars, since the BlackBerry just associates them with email accounts on the BlackBerry whereas iCal just has the calendar names.

    Would love to have support for different color calendars based on the title on my iCal.

    Additionally hopefully a bi-directional sync so contacts on my BlackBerry and contacts in my Address Book don’t get duped or deleted . . .

    Anyone have any information? Cheers! @brianjking me on twitter. Thanks!
