T-Mobile makes Motorola CLIQ preorder and pricing official, $199 with contract

The wait is finally over: T-Mobile has just announced the Motorola CLIQ pre-order details as well as pricing. So, exactly when can you get your hands on Motorola’s come-back device? Presale orders start for existing customers on October 19 and goes through to November 1. The device will be hitting stores and be made available online the day after presales end — November 2. Unfortunately, those “free” rumors turned out to be, well, rumors as T-Mobile and Motorola are expecting $199 with a new contract and a data plan that starts at $24.99 per month (don’t forget data plans for smartphones are mandatory for T-Mobile, as if you’d buy this phone without one). With a 5MP camera, a nice UI and support for up to 32GB of memory expansion, it’s definitely a nice handset. We’re just not sure the pricing is correct… What do you guys (and girls) think?

Way overpriced, with the sprint Hero at $175 and the palm pre dropping in price you would be a fool to get this. T-mobile is trying to bust heads on its outdated Qualcomm handsets.

After reading that ridiculous last-year price I think we ALL need some of what T-Mobile’s Marketing guys are smoking.

    Unbelievable.

I was waiting for the sale price of this.
The price just made my mind to switch to Sprint. If it was $150 or $100 I would have stayed with T-Mo.
The Hero has better specs and is $20 cheaper.

Once again Tmo gets pricing WRONG! Very simple if you really want to see a ton of these (which I think they will anyway) you have to come in with a better price..$99 to $149 would have made much more sense. The iPhone 3G w/8GB memory is $99..the HTC Hero from Sprint is $179(which I believe is a superior phone). Sorry but I’ll stick with my G1 for now.

Man, was hoping for $99-$149 price point, but originally thought it was going to be $200. So disappointed but will still end up with it as its time to get a new contract/phone and this is the one I like the most out of their offering…

Too expensive…same price as the mytouch 3G???

With the Sprint Hero being $180, you think T-Mobile would price it the same or less. Sprint is cheaper (if you want unlimited messaging with MyFavs/AnyMobile) and, from the hands-on/previews, Sense UI is being recognized as slightly superior to Blur, there is very little reason to have priced higher than the competition.

T-mobile has to get its act together if they want to keep growing their customer base. If they don’t subsidize the n900 I’m jumping ship. It doesn’t get much than this :(

T-Mobile probably thought, we managed to sucker people into the G1 with the creaky hinge, 3.2 mp cam, and horrible battery life for 179 on contract at launch, why not shoot a little higher with this device.

    Should be $99.99

If you are are the kind of person that is looking at this phone then you would get the iPhone for same price. This pricing strat. is a failure.

A bit too steep for that phone. I don’t care much for the iphone, but at $99 and with all the press it gets, your average consumer is not going to go for the cliq. I have to agree with STFU, it should really be $99 with a two year contract.

You all think this is too high? Isn’t this a smart phone? I mean it is one of the better made Android devices on the market. Plus it has a physical, slide-out keyboard whereas the Hero doesn’t.

It’s better than some of the other handsets that are $300 or more after rebate.

I call this another epic fail for T-Mobile. This phone is ok, but only marginally better than the G1.
…and it’s a year late to the party. If Moto and T-Mob want Android to be their flagship, they need to put some really capable hardware in there and really push te limit. At this rate they aren’t going anywhere fast.
    Me = disappointed again

I will choose Motorola CLIQ than HTC G1, HTC HERO and other brand. Because a fresh UI, fast respon for touchscreen than HTC Android Phone, cheap price than HTC Android Phonne (more than USD 1,000 without contract) and more.

Damn you mofo’s are cheap. Seems like a nice phone with a nifty UI, why people always want cheap shit. If you ask me, $99 for the old iphone w/2yr contract isn’t worth it. With s/w 3.xx, it’s slow as hell.

Damn, people can never ever be pleased in this world. Every single phone has to have every single feature in the package or it is a failure. Every phone has to be “this” price or they are insane. It’s freaking $200. Not EVERYone wants an iPhone, so that is irrelevant. I never thought I would live in a world where $199 for a smartphone was way overpriced. Sheesh.

The phone has shown to operate sluggishly Not to mention it’s the 2nd slowest phone, G1 being the slowest of all.
With a limited 256mb and the Hero carrying 512mb for $20 less it doesn’t make since.
I think they will try to market this to the same people who have the Sidekick.
Does it have an interesting UI? Yes.
    Does it lag? Yes.
Is the hardware competitive to other cheaper models? No. The only thing they share is the CPU.
The only hardware this thing has on the G1 is the camera 5mp to 3.2mp.
Look at what T-Mo did with the myTouch. A month or two afterward they had it for $100. I’m sure a lot of people extended and joined t-mo cause of that. However, I doubt many people will do that with this phone.

I doubt T-Mobile will move many units with this price. Expect a price drop of $50 sooner than later. I’d personally take the myTouch 3G over this, and I’m not really a fan of that device so that’s definiely saying something.

Too bad. I was thinking about getting one for my wife and for my 17 year old. Not at this price. A Blackberry 8900 (or by that time a 9700) is a proven phone for less money. Not worth the risk. $99 would make it worth trying.

All of you guys are whiners. T-Mobile has to price their phones higher because of the cheaper plans, although sprint is a little cheaper T-Mobile is still pretty inexpensive and if people ETF with a $50 CLIQ they’ll lose money on those accounts.

$99 would have made much more sense. TMO would sell way more and made much more money in the long run. Now the question is, how long before a price drop?

Hands on it has NO LAG !!!

Engadget says its “definitely faster than any factory ROM we’ve used before on any Android device.”

Perhaps the other comparisons were not with matching Android functionality.
