We get it, iphones rule and everything else is second rate. However, your “same old thing with a shinny wrapper” comment was uncalled for. Who is the ‘master’ of re-wrapping…you guessed it, Mr. Jobs himself. Take a quick gander (not the male Goose) at how many apple devices do the SAME thing. Apple piece mails their products. I have witnessed so many Iphone lovers trade one version for the next each time one is released with minimal upgrade. The latest being the NEW 3Gs (i thhink now with video and MMS capability) that is a must have. How many phones not the caliber of the iPhone have had this capability…plenty. Besides, after the web browser (which is good) what are you left with? Also, there are some people (like me)who do not care to use a phone to access the web, thus removing the iPhone as a possible choice when deciding on a a device.

Another fine example of re-wrapping by apple…the NEW Nano (or mini not sure) with video. I am not saying apple sucks, but the variety of ways they deliver the same product while making customers think it is something differnt is pure genius to say the least.

I can go on about iPhone vs. other phones but what is the use. iPhone users will forever say it is the best and those without will say it isn’t. So you see, they all re-wrap and borrow ideas to enhance their market place.

Have you read anything anybody has posted in response to what you’re talking about? I don’t understand but somehow you don’t seem to get it.

The world doesn’t revolve around Apple or the iPhone. It’s the best for you because it works for you. That doesn’t automatically make it the best device in the world, nor does it make the best device for everyone else. So somebody else disagrees with you on that and they’re automatically an iPhone and Apple hater? Please.

Apple doesn’t make something for everyone, especially when it comes to phones. It’s because they don’t make anything that fits what I want in a product, I will never buy anything they make. It’s that simple. If you like their products then good for you. There’s a reason why there’s a crap load of different phone manufacturers making a crap load of devices. You can’t satisfy everybody with one device.

The TP2 and TD2 happen to fit the needs and wants of certain people and the iPhone doesn’t. Maybe it’s because of what the Win Mo software allows you to do that you can’t on an iPhone. Maybe it’s the hardware. Maybe it’s the look of the phone. And maybe some people just don’t want an iPhone because everybody else has one (or so we would believe by how much exposure they get worldwide). Who cares what the reason is. I would take a TP2 over a 3GS any day of the week because of the homescreen on Win Mo, the ability to mulitask, the call send and end buttons which I like to have, and the physical keyboard since I can’t stand tapping on a screen to type. Who gives a crap. Whatever you like, go for it and good luck trying to convince us the iPhone is the right phone for us. In fact, you might as well give up on it.

Does this now answer your question as to why someone would choose this over an iPhone?

Apple technologies usually lag several years behind other Players. Where they excel is design and Propaganda. Not sure if you agree? Well, what can you do on an iPhone that I can’t on WinMo. Use the iPhone App store! Wahoo!

There are many WinMo “AppStores”, yes that’s right, on WinMo you can use the plural form! I can get anything I seem to want or need, and Steve Jobs doesn’t get to say if it’s alright. So yes, score one for you, you can use the iPhone App Store – but only at the price of Corporate Censorship.

Score what, 10, 20 or more for WinMo. It provides non-corporate censored choice.

Hardware – well, again, tell me one thing the iPhone harware does that I haven’t been doing do on WinMo for years? Use your finger! Cut & Paste! Browse the Internet! And soon – even send an MMS!

Do you really need to have the facts pointed out to you? Maybe, so here goes. The iPhone is yesterday’s mobile technology, simplified, dressed up in an attractive package, designed to shovel post-purchase dollars into the hungrey mouth of Apple Corporation while simultaniously releaving you of any personal freedom they can possibly wall you off from. Soon, you won’t even conceive of the value of choice, after all, they never mention it on the TV right?

Fundamentally, if you want a phone with tired technology, made so simple that anyone can use it, so tied to Apple’s Corporate Machine that you have no choice what software to put on it, or what to interface your phone and it’s data with, then go with an iPhone. Sure the screen resolution sucks, but the pictures they show on the TV look great on my HiDef so I’m sure the phone will too! Right?

Just drink Job’s coolaid and don’t ask inconvenient questions!

If, however, you want a phone with multi-tasking, a huge (not Apples’s idea of huge, a really big) set of Apps that YOU can choose from, an OS you can customize, an email machine that YOU can choose to interface with any kind of computer or account YOU want, and with a really big array of HID text entry options – then you’ve got to choose WinMo.

So there you have it. For easy-peasy fooling around on yesterday’s news all dressed up like new – get an iPhone. That’s what it does really, really well. You’ll love it.

For a machine with cutting edge capabilities, flexibility, work-related integration and the freedom to choose what YOU want to make of it – get WinMo. That’s what it does. Since we’re talking cutting edge, there will be some thought required, but if you like advanced technologies, you’re not going to be afraid of that. You’ll love it.

But whatever you choose, be prepared to reset it at both regular and irregular intervals. Just ’cause Apple’s commercials don’t show that you need to, doesn’t mean that you don’t! And be prepared to pay Apple for the privalege of, well, doing anything really. Cause when you buy an iPhone, you’re letting them into your wallet on an exclusive basis.

Your comment is still stupid. Your stupidity has nothing to do with Apple, the iphone, or WM. It’s stupid because you think that the iphone “works” for everyone.

See, I would totally buy a different phone, only if it offered something more than my current phone. And, even though I go and check out new phones every few days here, there’s nothing new that comes close to iPhone?

I had a Fuze. I flashed it with all your mad customizations (NATF, Energy, countless WM 6.5, etc) and none of them were as stable as iPhone 3.0. In fact, I couldn’t even get a GPS fix OTB on the Fuze, I had to hack it to use it with Google Maps. Further, those customizations add very little functionality, but that’s subjective, so to each their own.

I can understand the point re: a hardware keyboard, but *many* WM phones don’t have HW keyboards. Again, a subjective thing. The touchscreen keyboard on my iPhone works fine now that I can type in landscape.

So, I’m still awaiting the “killer response” to my question: What do any of these phones have over iPhone?

Every Treo ever released, a few Blackberries, almost a dozen different HTC’s, an Epix, a few BlackJack’s, a few Moto Q’s, a Sony Xperia and even an i-Mate Ultimate Ultimate 9502.

And just about all of them sucked because they used some variety of the ever unreliable Windows Mobile OS. (Well, except a few Treo’s and the BB’s)

You can hate Apple all you want, but to try and claim that anyone who appreciates the iPhone doesn’t know sh*t about smartphones is a truly ignorant remark. Neither is anyone who simply appreciates the iPhone an Apple fan boy.

I can’t understand why so many how purport to “know” smartphones lose their sh*t anytime someone mentions iPhone? It’s a phone, not an international war criminal, or a crippling disease.

The iPhone is a *great* smartphone. This statement is accurate based upon any reasonable, objective metric by which a smartphone may be measured.

Instead of simply screaming “Apple sucks, yur gay!” towards every post praising iPhone, why not reflect on Microsoft’s diminishing market share with some objective reasoning, like “Why can’t MS get it right with Windows Mobile?” or perhaps “Why does MS think I *want* to continue using a stylus when multi-touch phones are commonplace?” You might even ask: “Why did MS come up with the idea of Windows Marketplace (or zune, or MS Retail Store, or Project Pink) only *after* Apple proved the concept by succeeding with it?”

You even try to claim that iPhone’s upgrades were “small bullshit improvements”, even though out of ALL the MS phones I mentioned, only TWO were upgradeable to newer versions of Windows Mobile! (Perhaps you prefer NO upgrades to “small” ones?)

See the recurring theme here? MS hasn’t offered any real innovation since Windows 95. Everything since has been a tired, stale rehash of what came before; albeit in a shinier wrapper.

So, go and think about what you’re whining about. After reading so many similar posts here, it appears the haters have a lot more to learn than the “fan boys”.

I can’t tell whether your elitist comment (”WTF would anyone consider these over an iPhone? Seriously.”) was in fact genuine or pure sarcasm but I will take the liberty of answering it for you. I for one will never buy an iPhone simply because it’s an Apple product and as such it’s not designed for someone like me who wants essentially the ultimate all in one device and a customizable OS that gives me all the power.

See what you don’t seem to understand is that people genuinely don’t like the iPhone for a variety of reasons. The OS is a big one and it’s mainly because of its total lack of customization options and its inability to multitask and I personally think its way too over simplified. Then there’s the infamous non removable battery which turns off even more people and the lack of microSD expansion which turns off even more. Others might not want to be forced to use certain software to be able to access it on a computer. Looking at the TP2, some users are attracted to its keyboard which is said to be exceptional (no comment on AT&T’s changing of certain character locations). How is an iPhone going to satisfy someone who desires a full physical QWERTY keyboard? It won’t and never will so it’s out. While you may not care about such things, they are very important to certain users, myself included. Pricing doesn’t matter in any of these cases either. Who cares how much it costs when it doesn’t satisfy the wants and needs of certain users. I don’t care if the iPhone 3GS costs $50 on contract. I’m never buying one. And as far as Win Mobile crashing, I beg you to tell me about this perfect OS which exists that never crashes. I can tell you it certainly isn’t iPhone OS. Run a google search “iPhone + crashing” and just glance at the number of results. Yes Win Mo may have its moments, as do all of them, but I assure you that’s not keeping many people from buying a Win Mo device. Another great thing about Win Mo is that if you don’t like the web browser you can get another one! Opera Mini 5 Beta is a good choice right now and it works well on touch devices.

I know this may be difficult for you to swallow, but some users look at more than just price or what TV commercials tell you or how many apps they have available or what all these blogs and sites have to say about a particular phone. Everybody likes something different and if you stop and think for a second you might be able to see that. Some users have a definitive set of things they look for in a phone and will not settle for something less than what they want and guess what!? Not everybody wants an iPhone! Hope you didn’t fall off your seat after reading that!

Why? Well, I’m an individual who can choose what is or isn’t important to me. For you to even ask such a stupid question shows what type of sucker you are. If someone wants a damn Jitterbug, as long as you’re not paying, why do you care? If you don’t like the Fuze, move on. I like my Fuze and look forward to the Tilt2, and hopefully, the Leo. A smartphone is only as smart as the user.

Depends on how much you like buggy handsets. The carrier preference is yours. I don’t think it will matter. I would just wait, until you can get a handset with 6.5 already on it. As most Windows Mobile handsets, especially HTC manufactured ones, tend to get real buggy after firmware upgrades.

So you’re gonna use the keyboard to dial number on the TILT2? I had the 8125 and 8525 and, I never used the keyboard with the phone programs’ keyboard so easily accessible.

I understand being fed up with a carrier but Geez! Get a Pre or a shiny TP2 from Sprint already.

Someone please explain to me how these phones are more attractive to you than iPhone (while saving the “Apple sucks!” rhetoric).

I flashed my Fuze with WM 6.5 and it still sucks royal ass. The browser is horrible, changing simple settings still requires a stylus and crashes occur at regular intervals.

I just can’t see giving up my iPhone for this ilk, but perhaps I’m missing something………?

Wow, what an a-hole!! Are you so arrogant that you think that everyone should have the same interests in a phone that you do. I prefer an OS that is customizable with few restrictions. I prefer a replaceable battery since battery life sucks on the iphone and probably the TP2 as well. I prefer a phone capable of multitasking. WM 6.5 has its limitations, but in my opinion is far better than the iphone for what I use it for. Shall I go on or did you get my point.
