AT&T to launch the Tilt 2 on October 18th? [UPDATED]

HTC_Touch_Pr02

Oh no, we’re not done just yet ladies and gents. We already know October 6th is going to be a glorious day and now it looks like AT&T subscribers will be able to join in on the fun. Have you been feeling left out, wondering when AT&T would finally launch the HTC Touch Pro2 that is already available from T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon? Dry those eyes, as AT&T apparently had a good reason to hold off on the launch. According to our ninja, AT&T is preparing to launch the Pro2 — dubbed Tilt 2 by AT&T as we already know — on October 6th. Since the release will come after Windows Mobile 6.5 becomes a reality on the 6th, it’s a safe bet that the Tilt 2 will pack WinMo 6.5 right out of the box if all goes according to plan. Sure, it might have taken a while but AT&T fans can now take solace in knowing they’ll be rocking 6.5 while other Pro2 owners are busy trying to upgrade.

UPDATE: It looks like the target release date of the 6th will be missed due to a few bugs that still need to be ironed out and tested. The new target is apparently October 18th.

    But what build level will be on the phone on October 6th? AT&T users may still have to perform an update to get the most current build if they keep tweaking it up to launch day.

    Finally! It’s this or the iPhone. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the Leo was further along than thought? Of course, it would never escape the attention of these websites when passing through the FCC. Hopefully, AT&T will give us something more to choose from, but this is a good start.

    @APK,
    I seriously doubt that of they are waiting until last minute that there will be significant updates after the release. Most likely no update will have to be done … They don’t come THAT often.

    It’s about time! More screenshots and pricing, plz! =)

    Hoping they won’t go the ridiculous 350 dollar route that Tmo and Sprint went..

    HardSPL for GSM is already out, and CDMA will probably be soon..so we will probably be able to have 6.5 before then :-)

    Why can’t HTC add 3.5 mm headset jack on this device like VZ and Sprint. If it is launching later than CDMA device, why can’t they!?
    Stop making excuses like, “Oh, I am sorry. GSM version has already been released world wide.”
    Stupid HTC, I am passing this touch pro 2 because of that. At least, my BB bold and Iphone will have 3.5 mm headset jack.

    @Blackberry Bold

    Has it been confirmed that the AT&T version won’t have a 3.5 mm headset jack? Bummer..

    At first when I saw the picture, I was like “Whoa, that’s the best looking TP2 yet!” then I saw that it was the stock version.. what a let down!

    If AT&T comes in on par with T-Mobile’s current price, it should sell well, but if they come with Sprint’s price, they’ll have stacks of TP2s just lying around. Price will be the make or break for me.

    Are you sure it doesn’t have a 3.5mm headset jack?

    and don’t hey know that the first thing true windows mobile users do to their devices is flash a custom rom?!? i’d rather have this device when all the rest got it and be flashing leaked 6.5 builds than wait for an official thats probably gonna be loaded with crap

    AT&T R&D has been a BIG disappointment – Great they are launching TP2 w/6.5WM but what a about Diamond 2(Warhawk). I have been looking at Palm Pre and HTC Hero or Magic as I can not move from WM to iPhone – gotone for my wife(iPhone is for those who can use for a real smartphone). At&T needs to catch up BIG time.

    What the hell are you talking about? Both T-Mobile and Sprint sell it for $350.

    If you’re talking about 3rd party pricing, Sprint/T-Mobile have little control/reason to care on how much 3rd parties sell their devices.

    How do you know it doesn’t have 3.5mm jack? There are no specifications leaks yet on this device. Maybe it does …maybe it doesn’t.

    Munkee man says:

    The leaked pics of the ATT version do show a 3.5 jack and my guess is that it will be somewhere around the SPRIT asking price. They seem to still be on the iphone high. Plus The $199 intro @ vzn is scheduled to end 10/3/09. Tmo and Sprtnit are at $350 already So why ask less than everyone else.

    Makes Me Wonder says:

    It WILL have a 3.5mm jack, I don’t know what nonsense Mr. Blackberry Bold is peddling here but the official word from HTC was all devices from the Hero (European version) onwards will sport a 3.5mm jack. There aren’t any AT&T TP2’s floating out in the wild so that would be considered a device after the Hero

    I wish this thing would come out on AT&T already, a few more days after WM6.5 launch doesn’t kill me since I have been waiting since May. I just hope my Blackjack doesn’t die on me before then.

    TP2-Owner says:

    I seriously could not wait any longer, been watching/waiting for this device for months. Ordered from Sprint last night, with various discounts, rebates, invoice credits, referral gift cards etc, my net price should be just about nill, and don’t even get me started on monthly service cost for a 4 phone family plan with data/text/GPS, etc. AT&T is way more expensive to own multiple smart phones than Sprint. Crossing my fingers Sprint service is up to par, but I’ll have 30 days to return if it’s not.

    BBForever says:

    The issues that HTC is going to be tweaking is with the task manager functions and the touch flow. The touch flow runs so much better on this HTC than others like the FUZE.. but for some reason it takes up a whole lot of memory and often hinders other functions on the phone. The task manager doesn’t respond well right now, but what I have seen it’s definitely one of the best HTC’s that AT&T has gotten

    Henry says:

    Dear AT&T…have you looked into the Acer F1? Snapdragon 1GHz to speed up a slow WM device. AT&T seems to be resting on the iPhone to keep their customers. It isolates others who want something different. TP2 is hopefully only a start.
