Acer F1 to launch October 6th
Acer’s long awaited high-end Windows Mobile handset is rumored to finally be ready for launch on October 6th. Not coincidentally, this is the official roll out date of Windows Mobile 6.5 as you well know by now, and it looks like Acer wants in on the action just like everyone else. As a refresher, the F1 will feature a 3.8-inch WVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera with flash and auto-focus, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, FM Tuner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s expected to debut for £295 ($482USD), making the F1 an extremely wallet-friendly option as far as full featured Windows Phones are concerned.

If Acer would put out really good devices, unlike their crash-a-thon laptops and Screens, I’d having something to compliment about.
I love Acer! I might get this instead of the TP2 at keeps delaying.

oh wait…we can’t! Why? Because the stupid FCC won’t “unlock” the consumers from being allowed to use ANY phone on a compatible network!
Just think if any GSM phone would work on any GSM network without having to unlock the phone. Same for CDMA phones. If multiple retail stores started selling JUST the phones, you know good and well the price would be better than “retail”.
But, we (USA) are stuck in a world where choice is not allowed in the wireless phone market.
With so many companies all making Windows Mobile phones how do they differ? You have HTC, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, and now Acer (and I’m sure others).
Well here is how I feel about it…I like HTC only because it has been strongly supported by cooked ROMS by XDA-developers. I wan’t a device that can be upgraded and not need the carrier or manufacture’s blessing as to what I can do with my mobile device. I think smartphones should be more like PCs and easily adheare to standards and alow the user to upgrade the OS with minimal effort. Until that day comes I’ll stick with HTC devices unless the hacking community decides to adopt a different manufacture other than HTC.

I’m on my second Windows Mobile phone, for various reasons I went to an older one. I don’t really see anything great about winmo, having various phones in the past year. (Curve 8300, iphone 2g, n95-4, omnia i900, htc hermes). I have decided the best overall phone has to be my Curve, the blackberry os though lacking in advance features as the other phones has fantastic push email, battery life and virtually no laggy interface unlike the others.
I still have to get an Android phone and whatever other phone I can find, though that XP phone is something I want to get.

Why doesn’t Acer fix the bugs in their just released WM6.1 phones such as the Acer M900 or F900 which to this day still has blank-screen-of-death backlight problems?
How about up to date OpenGLES 2 drivers that don’t slog when trying to texture a polygon?
How about turning on the FPU in these beasts so we can use them instead of taking up space?
Could be worse they could of released it under their Gateway brand name
You should buy your phones from the FREE WORLD (Non USA/Canada) then you could use what ever phone you wanted on what ever network you wanted.
