AT&T stops all sales of the Nokia Mural
Remember that cute little handset AT&T announced last week, the Nokia Mural? You know, the 3G clam shell feature phone that beckons tweens with its funky lights and its $50 price tag? Well if you were planning to grab one, think again. According to one of our trusty ninjas AT&T has pulled the handset indefinitely, ordering all shipments stopped and all sales ceased. According to the internal AT&T memo seen above, a production bungle has left the Mural incapable of operating on AT&T’s 3G network. Instead, it’s stuck on 2G. All retail outlets have been informed that they should send the handsets to AT&T’s returns facility by September 25th for a software update — which at least that means a fix is already available. The bad news: no information was provided in terms of when the Mural might become available for sale once again.
Lol. I think this is the same issue as with Nokia 6650! Looks like ATT doesn’t like Nokia too much!!! Who cares for 3G when the lights of your phone change every time you flip it)))

Why does it seem that so many phones seem to have issues with ATT’s 3G network? Is it that fragile and unreliable?
Both the manufacturers and the carrier have testers who are supposed to bug and debug these types of issues well before release.
What of the people who already purchased this phone… or wait… DID anyone buy this phone?
why the hell dosent att let customers switch it from 2g to 3g when ever they want is that just to much to ask >>??? what do they possibly gain by leaving the phones stuck on 3g all the time it wastes battery life if your like me and live in the country where there is no 3g likely ever its just retarded

Totally agree man, CSP is worthless when it comes to getting us up to date before the public.
Besides … it was not $49.99 as Nokia’s 09/02/09 Press Release stated (the Press Release is still there, on the Nokia USA site), instead the price was $99.99 after $50 MIR on the AT&T’s Nokia page. What’s going on? Looks like a total screw-up.
That’s what I was thinking…for instance I knew about our A-List before anyone on my team. Thanks to BGR

Like the post says, it is a production bungle. The only difference between US 3G and the 3G they use in the entire world are the frequencies at which the radios operate on. Other than that it is the same standard. I would guess that they were all manufactured with radios operating on the wrong frequency.

If 1 or 2 phones have issues connecting to 3g, that does not mean the network is fragile and unreliable, it’s a software issue. The 50+ other phones connect to it perfectly. How ignorant do people get?

NOT ONLY THAT, but the rebate required some kind of $20 data plan. I don’t understand why everyone keeps reprinting that it’s $50. You’d think there would be a post “AT&T sells dumb-phone that doesn’t work for double expected cost”. I am really liking BGR (but I still check engadgetmobile, if only for the sarcasm
but I am disappointed that people just quote press releases and don’t follow up. Common, dudes, this is your biz here

I just bought one on Saturday. Don’t know if anything has been updated… If it’s the same service I got from my last AT&T phone (also Nokia) I will be using the insurance a lot!
And the colors don’t change each time you open it (at least not any more).
How can I tell is updates were made and if this thing is what it should be?
I got one a few weeks back .And without notice i get a delivery from dhl with a new mural explaining the 3g does not work and i need to send the old one back.

I just bought on last night $100.00 then you MIR of $50.00, How can you tell if you have 3g or 2g? I have thirty days to decide if I want it. I work for the school system and all the jids phone pickup in school but I have been unable to find any phone to work in the school building, any ideas?

What a load of….Its not a big deal because it was $50 and the freebie available was just about the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. Anyway, does this phone seriously not have any free ringtones?? And how the **** do you put it on silence?

The Crystal Lake, Illinois store sold me the mural after all stores were told to not see the phone. They took me to myxer.com to download songs, because even a att. tech couldn’t download songs on the internet and he told me to take it to the closest store, which was Crystal Lake, Il. The store passed off this phone without telling me of the problem. Thank you at&t.
