BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac to go live today?

BBDM-Mac-Tweet

BlackBerry-addicted Mac users almost had cause for celebration this morning as RIM announced the official availability of BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac — and then pulled the announcement. Last month we gave you an extensive preview of the software many have been waiting on for years. RIM’s official BlackBerry notes page on Facebook finally made an announcement a short while ago, stating that Desktop Manager for Mac was alive and ready to rock. Woo hoo! Before we could even finish an announcement post however, the note was removed. We’re not sure exactly what’s going on here, but it could be safe to expect the highly anticipated software to go live later today or perhaps sometime later this week. To whoever accidentally hit that publish button and then pulled the note from Facebook, you’re just cruel.

Very cruel indeed! Any idea on whether or not iCal will sync? I gave the leaked version a shot, and had no luck with iCal.

Awesome!!! I mean…almost, but, ahhh hell…its awesome!!! Finally after 20 years or however long rim’s been around, apple is finally given respect. Wow. And rim wonders why their stock always hovers around 70. Poorly built Bold, no Apple support, OS is engineered by monkeys, ect…time to get with the times yo…

I am amazed that a company as well though of as RIM are bothering with a UNIX cloned OS PC-wannabe that has less than 10% of the retail market.

Of course, it will not be able to update the BlackBerry OS. You will need to do that OTA for official OSs or use a real PC for beta OS installs.

    IOt’s like the Mac, a 50% solution.

You are wrong on so many accounts, rederikus. You can already update the Blackberry OS using the leaked Mac Beta, so I’m pretty sure that the official release will allow it as well.

And you guys with your 10% market share do not realize how ridiculous that sounds. Go look up how many Mac’s were sold last year and see if you think it is smart for a company to ignore them. We aren’t talking about 10% of a tiny market, but I admire that you believe you know more about it than RIM does. Bravo for your bravado!

Then again, you think Mac is only a 50% solution, so we must take whatever you say with a grain of salt.

it’s not RIM’s fault, it’s Apples. They want you to by an iPhone.

The original release date was September 10th. It has been delay till September 25th to do compatibility testing with Snow Leopard. Build 75 is final candidate.

@rederikus: Why so much hostility? Can’t we (Mac folk) have the Desktop Manager too? Is there enough room with your bloated ego for at least one other distribution? I think so. Thanks for sharing.

    @ rederikus:

Last week I used the leaked version to update my OS. It was fast, seamless, groovy. I think what you’re referring to is the inability to update to unofficial OS versions with BBDM for Mac (which I believe is a RIM-imposed limitation, not Apple). That is a bummer but a small inconvenience in the grand scheme.

Beware. I used the leaked version and wound up with duplicates of all 700 of my contacts. The category got changed to “two-way pager” so finding duplicates and merging wasn’t the answer.
