HTC Touch Pro2, Diamond2 and Snap will be eligible for Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade

Good news for owners of HTC’s latest bumper crop of Windows Mobile phones. Lars Christian Weisswange, the Regional Director of HTC for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, has reportedly confirmed that the HTC Touch Pro2, the Diamond2 and the HTC Snap will be upgradable to Windows Mobile 6.5 when the OS is officially released by Microsoft in early October. The ROM update will be free (yay!) and will feature the latest version of TouchFLO 3D, which reportedly borrows its look and feel from HTC’s Sense UI for Android. No details on when the ROM upgrade will be provided, which countries outside Germany, Austria and Switzerland are included or whether carrier involvement will influence availability. In the unfortunate event you can’t get your hands on an “official” Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM, there is always the xda developers forum, which has been providing WM 6.5 ROMs for several months now.

If you’re going to upgrade a ROM, I can’t understand why you wouldn’t use something from XDA.

This is awesome news. Even if it weren’t, a chef certainly would have cooked a custom winmo 6.5 ROM and make it eligible.

I actually upgraded to NATF’s 6.5 ROM on my Touch Pro and decided to revert to 6.1. It’s nothing against NATF, its a great ROM, but I had all kinds of interface issues with old programs on 6.5. Forcing menus on old programs to conform to the new finger friendly interface was kind of a train wreck on some programs. For the in built apps things were ok but third party programs are going to need overhauls; and since some of my apps are 6 years old I don’t think they’re being updated anymore.

I’m hoping that when the official ROMs come out the issues are solved but I’m suspecting 6.5 will suffer the traditional Windows backwards compatibility curse (but this time there’s no “Compatibility Mode”).

My only worry, is that i buy a TP2, upgrade to Winmo 6.5 and WinMo 7 is Drastically different….if they wont be then il go ahead and deal wit 6.1 for a Month.

But i better see a noticable difference from 6.1 & 6.5 othawise that HERO gets the nod

Those that read these blogs are probably smart enough to already have (if they wanted) installed 6.5 on their HTC phones. I went 6.5 in May, smooth sailing. The builds are getting faster & smoother. The last 4 builds from RRE have been very stable. XDA is the way to go!

so… it says Snap will be upgradeable. Is this only for the unbranded Snap, or is my Dash 3G going to be upgradeable as well?

When you upgrade it does a HARD Reset which does erase the phone completely. You can back it up very easily to you PC(before you upgrade). It really is very simple to upgrade, just follow the instructions and you should be fine. Good luck

I have an Unlocked USA Version Touch Diamond and believe me I’ve tried to understand that web site but can’t unravel it’s complexities.
If you can direct me to the where and how, without me spending half a day searching for RUU’s that don’t work, I’ll be indebted to you for life.
