Verizon Wireless Touch Pro2 to land September 11th, $199.99

As if an Android handset and a couple of Blackberry handsets weren’t enough, Verizon Wireless customers may have yet another handset coming quickly down the pike. A trusted ninja let us know that VZW’s Touch Pro2 is slated to launch on September 11th for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and the obligatory 2-year contract. If this is in fact the case, and we have no reason to doubt it, it will be a massive slap in the face to both Sprint and T-Mobile as each of their Pro2s bear a $350 price tag. Wow. Go and revel this long Labor Day weekend, Verizon fans — and when the week is out, don’t forget to hit Big Red for a brand spanking new TP2.

Thanks, goldciv!

also the Sprint plans over $60 come with the “pick 3″ option I believe, Verizon does not. I will use your setup when I call sprint retentions if the price doesn’t drop on their TP2

Yeah. It’s pretty hard to argue that Sprint is not cheaper. They are. As other have said, they bundle in the SMS/MMS as well as the TV (not worth it IMO) and the navigation software (worth it) for the same price. Plus the fact that most people who can get work discounts on VZW can get better discounts on Sprint (19% for VZW vs. 25% for Sprint).

That said, I remain with Verizon because when I want to make a call, I can make a call. I can’t remember the last time I was without a signal on VZW. Sprint’s not as bad as some say. I think their data network is as good or better than Verizon’s (they operate on the same higher frequency in many places). But voice is a completely different ballgame. Sprint doesn’t operate at the lower, better frequency and Verizon *lives* there. So when you’re in a building, and most of us are most of the time, you’ve got a better shot with VZW than you do with Sprint.

But back to the main point. TP2. Nice phone, nice price, no longer crippled (THANK GOD!)… so when are we going to get some halfway decent applications. I have a Touch Pro now (Sprint hacked to work on VZW) and while I like it, there’s so many applications on my work 8330 that don’t exist on WM. No Kindle reader, no B&N reader, no Slacker (huge!)… Pandora’s available, but not without work…

Oh well, it’s always something. Still a good deal though. Easy to hack.

Not to mention the cost of Telenav if they choose to use it, where its already bundled in the Sprint price.

and why you verizon haters dont have your facts right when comparing verizon. a fan cause I correst some of u who dont know what there talking about. Dont know wether its jealousy or just bitter that verizon asked for a deposit when you tried to signup for service

and actually tmobiles doesnt include unlimited texting and again 150 less minutes for 64.99

plus my corporate discount i pay 67 with unlimited texting so yeah still virtually the same. yet again with better coverage and 150 bucks in my pocket

    HAHAHA

What a joke… While most of you Verizon fans are loving this price.. You get what you pay for when it comes to a Verizon phone.

Lower price = more locked down features, less usability for WM, and well, Im sure the design isnt as asthetically pleasing to the eye, or any living breathing persons eye for that matter.

T-Mobile and Sprint have not only the better of the phones (quality and design) but also the better plans to go with offering a great phone.

i dont know what sero is but i am on verizon and if i was to switch to sprint i will have 69.99 plan for 450 minutes and data and text. with verizon ihave 39.99 plus data and text for 79.99- corporate discount=65 so for me, right now it is acually cheaper to be on verizon . That simply everything plan is pretty sweet if i acutally needed it which i dont. sure verizon might be more expensive for other people, but i honestly dont give a fuck.

You must have been living under a rock for a month because it’s been confirmed that nothing is locked down and infact the design is the same as the Sprint version; except of course for the logo placement, battery cover, and slight modifcation to the keyboard.

Tell me, what is locked down about it? How is usability of WM different from any other carrier or skin of TF3D? I don’t believe you have correct information.

@John, your wrong about t-mobile. It’s 39.99 a month for 1000 minutes on the individula plan. If you add the my favs then yes it’s only 300 minutes a month.

If the TP2 is going to be 199.99, then what will the Whitestone be? The same? It has to be cheaper, right, since there’s no keyboard? I don’t know, the $199.99 price point is so unusual for a Verizon topline WM phone that I won’t believe it until I see it.

I don’t understand why everyone is trusting this so-called “trusted ninja” as a source of information..I’d be skeptical about the $199 after mail in rebate, especially if the phone is the same as the T-Mobile and Sprint versions for $349 after $100 mail in rebate

TP2 is good, but with slightly outdated CPU. That’s why VZ put it on sale with WinMo 6.1 before WinMo 6.5 launch in October.
With WinMo 6.5 we will see many new phones with better hardware. Some of them already leaked, but I do not see any leaks about future VZ WinMo phones, do you? good security for good TP2 sales.

You do realize that both Sprint and T-Mobile both offer corporate discounts too right? I suggest using that extra $150/Month you get to keep and take writing/spelling lessons.

Who?: Personally I am looking for a slider with physical horizontal keyboard. Only TP2 is coming to VZ in this format. On the GSM side of the world there are Nokias coming. And with WinMo – Sony Ericcson. Will VZ have the only one slider smartphone?
