AT&T pulls BlackBerry Bold software upgrade

There aren’t enough words to describe the reasoning why AT&T’s first software upgrade (not counting a minor platform upgrade) since November of last year was just removed, so we’ll pretty much keep it short. The much-awaited and much needed 4.6.0.297 OS upgrade for the Bold has been pulled due to a “software issue affecting the interaction between the device and network enhancements bring deployed.” How AT&T manages to screw something as simple as this up, however, is not answered.

There’s no ETA for the upgrade’s return.

I have had my Bold since it came out on ATT. Have had NO problems with it or ATT. I have OS .297 with no problems and VVM with no problems.

I have the Bold on AT&T running OS .297 and the first five days it was great and all of a sudden I had three random restarts and a bunch of drop calls. But the issued was not just at home but near large city with complete 3G coverage. I not an expert but I have had problems with the Bold and AT&T since the Bold came out. We have three other 3G phones on our family phone and none of them have problems. Going back to the 8820 while not as fancy as the Bold at least it doesn’t drop calls on AT&T crappy network.

I had no issues until I “upgraded” to OS .297 and now my Bold will not turn on all the way. After 5 hours with AT&T and RIM the verdict is that I need to pay to replace $500 or repair $200 my out-of-warranty Bold. This device had no problems until I was notified of the update and clicked on the link. I am paying for their OS mistake, and waiting for my contract to expire.

I think adamama’s phone is glitching. Must be an iPhone as it is known to continue sending the same message multiple times.

I’ve upgraded but Visual Voicemail doesn’t work. It says Provisioning is unsuccessful. To resolve this issue, contact your wireless service provider. No other issues.

Curious as to why you are being asked to PAY for a new phone or repair if you are under contract? I am having various issues since the upgrade… Got the phone and the next day was told to upgrade. Just waiting for them to ship it out.

I am under contract, but out of warranty. Even though the upgrade killed my phone AT&T claims its he device, not the OS. I don’t blaim RIM because they can not help outside their agreement with AT&T…waiting for my contract to expire.

My replacement phone will be in today so I have not asked this but is is possible to downlevel the phone to the previous OS? Perhaps ATT or RIM can assist with that. I need to make sure the phone does not UPGRADE when I attach to the laptop and the software decides to FIX things for me.
