Nokia Shade gets pictured; headed to Verizon to replace the Mirage?

Was the Mural announcement from this morning not quite enough to satisfy your entry-level Nokia cravings? Don’t fret — the Shade should be just what the doctor ordered. Not much is known about this mysterious flipping feature phone for the time being but suffice it to say, most of you likely won’t care one way or the other. If you happen to have a child or perhaps a much younger sibling looking for a low-end dumb phone with a standard 0-9 keypad however, take notice: Rumor has it the Nokia Shade will eventually replace the Mirage on Verizon’s shelves, though specs are completely unknown for now. Figure on S40, a 2 megapixel camera and a handful of music/social networking features headlining the spec sheet once this little guy gets official. Hit the jump for another couple of shots.

    Sometimes I wish I could live with a phone like this, but I’d rather stick to a bb that crashes but has html email. Maybe one day I can go back but…not now.

    Most US consumers think that Nokia is only capable of making this type of phones. Nokia is incapable of negotiating deals with carriers that would subsidise their high-end phones. I guess it is well deserved then. Nokia is only capable producing third world handsets! They should probably exit US market, like they exited Japan last year and only make phones for the poor countries!!!

    Steve, you truly are the village idiot. Did it ever occur to you that not everyone needs a smartphone or even an iphone? this phone may perfectly fit the needs of someone who wants a phone for voice calls and nothing else.

    You’re not the only moron here steve. These little boys ranting about how everyone needs data, touchscreen, a reach around from steve, and XYZ features clearly do not understand the market for cell service and assume every is on the same page as they are. Good job steve and your fanboy followers. You are all mind numbingly stupid.

    @Bruno
    you are right they should make phones only for USA, because when it comes to ranking in terms of mobile telephony , USA is third world country,where you never get network all over the land without interruption. In terms of 3G and CDMA network quality you are 3rd world(thats why when all world already have 3G ,Apple needs to market there phone with 3G and 3GS, most of people there don not know HSPDA etc.poor chap go behind it). In terms of subscribers you can’t compete with 3rd world and most important: 95% of USA citizens can not afford mobile phones without carrier subsidy.

    Have any of you heard of the N76? Came out years ago, was never successful. This is just a revamped, slightly rounded version of that. Which might not be a bad move for Nokia in the US …

    I am “one of those odd people who want a phone for CALLING ONLY! Yes, I know I’m in the minority but I don’t care. I don’t NEED to text; I don’t NEED to surf the web with my phone; I don’t NEED to download music; I don’t even NEED to take pictures with my phone. What I DO NEED is a dependable phone (I’ve had several Nokia’s in the last 15 years) and I’ve had nothing but excellent service from Nokia. For those of you who think I’m backwards, the opposite is true. I’m surrounded by high-tech at my job, day-in and day-out. When it comes to a cell phone, less is more.
