Extremely loud Nokia N900 promo video shows off Maemo 5 UI
Let’s face it — annoying, stale and overused references to a “desktop experience” aside, the N900 is probably one of the most exciting things to happen to Nokia in years… At least for technophiles. In a nutshell, Maemo 5 is the first fresh new OS to find its way to a Nokia smartphone since S60 3rd Edition first found its way to Fred Flinstone’s phone back in the stone ages. S60 3rd is still rocking relatively hard where global sales are concerned of course, but even the most avid Nokia fans will reluctantly admit to being bored with it at this point. S60 5th Edition is just more of the same and until Symbian^4 struts its stuff, Maemo is apparently where it’s at. The N900, Nokia’s first Maemo-powered smartphone, will drop some time in October so until then all we can do is watch painfully loud promo videos and yearn for the day when Nokia’s new kit finds its way to our pockets, and hopefully, our hearts. Video after the jump.

This is a very exciting device for T-Mobile users that are used to mid or low end devices. I will definitely be picking up this baby.
Wow that video is loud….
That does look sick
Me likey.
Love the fact its a TRUE linux OS
I will wait to see it on actual device.
Transformers!!!
Hey Nokia, How about fixing the Nokia Email Client bullshit on Nokia E75. I am getting tired of you trying to beat the big three (APPLE, ANDROID, MS) but can’t seem to fix the freaking software problems.
Take that iPhone
Already hate the keyboard. It looks an absolute nuisance to type on (if it’s anything like the N97 keyboard, which it seems to resemble).
Is this going to be subsidized under contract by T-Mobile or just have T-Mobile 3G bands at an unlocked price?
both
i’ll take these painfully loud videos over the Pre’s freaky albino chick and the iphone lame ass music with some douche touting copy and paste
So is this thing a phone or a tablet?
Looks like a really big phone or a really small tablet.
It’s a phone. And the keyboard is breeze to use, same as my N800. Don’t be afraid of change……embrace it.
Firefox?
Have u seen the nokia n900 intro video with two Finnish dudes? It’s awesome! In particular the trick to zoom in and out using a single finger is slick and the geotagging app is fab!
WHOA! IT EVEN LEVITATES!
interesting… the tabbed window manager thing seems annoying though.
Nice phone and definitely more functional than the Iphone. I like it, but it ain’t beating the Iphone here in the US. No US consumer awareness for Nokia high end smartphones. Until then, the Iphone will remaing top of the US heap. We, the ones who constantly post here are a small minority of US phones users. Imho, the Pre has a better chance.
the iphone looks a complete failure compared to this thing. I freaking want the N900 so bad, Ill switch to whatever carrier to get it. /patiently waiting playing with my N800 wishing it had the same features…
Where did they find a model with such tiny hands?
NICEEE!!! that was exactly what i was thinking. also how dose this run firefox???????
Firefox is my favorite browser, if this has a mobile version of Firefox then I might be looking at my next phone. That won’t be for another year or two….we’ll see whats available then. I have to admit that this thing rocks. I’m glad Nokia got back on. Like I said, this won’t beat the Iphone or Blackberry in sales here in the US though.Having a better product doesn’t necessarily translate into consumer popularity, not without great marketing. Apple is just too big a name and diversified with the Personal Computers, Ipods, Music and then the Iphone. Nokia has phones which they do very well, so they can’t afford to slack off. I’ll be going back to Nokia as soon as my contract runs out in a year and 1/2 also as soon as the Ovi store matures up.
@Jonathan this would be available about October, so not a year or so!!
Yeah, but I’m on a contract right now with ATT and this is coming to T-mobile. If they make one for ATT bands then maybe I could upgrade my wife’s phone and use that sim card for it like I did with my N95 8gb before. I’m willing to wait it out, who knows what phones will come out in a year or two. I do like the OS, it looks like a keeper for Nokia.
that was the best phone commercial I have seen, EVER.
