Nokia N900 gets official
Our favorite Finnish phonies haven’t exactly been building a mystery in the months and weeks leading up to today, but the countless Nokia fans waiting for Rover to sit and stay have cause for celebration nonetheless. Behold… the Nokia N900! Nokia’s first Maemo 5-powered handset — in fact, it’s the company’s first Maemo-powered phone, period — is indeed looking like a beauty in its official press renders. Specs are exactly what we’ve known for quite a while:
- Maemo 5 OS
- 3.5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) resistive touchscreen display
- 110.9 × 59.8 × 18mm, 181g
- Portrait-orientation sliding QWERTY
- Mozilla-based browser, full Adobe Flash support
- ARM cortex A8 processor
- 32GB internal memory
- 5.0 MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash, auto-focus and sliding cover
- MicroSDHC support up to 16GB
- FM transmitter
- Quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA 900/1700/2100, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP
- GPS
- 1320 mAh battery
The N900 will launch in “select markets” in October with an expected retail price of €500. We’re still expecting it to drop with T-Mobile here in the US of course, but no word on whether or not we can look forward to an October release. Anyone excited to see it on display next week at Nokia World? We know we are. In the meantime, hit the jump for a couple of marketing videos including one that shows off great features like multiple desktop support and a Palm Pre card-like task switcher.

When I saw this phone for the first time, I knew I would no longer have to wait for T-Mobile to get around to “maybe” carrying the HTC Touch Diamond 2. I’m running headlong into the loving arms of the N900…Come to Daddy!!!
…good grief.
so its not just me.

Yes I do live on Nokia boards. I’m senior editor of a symbian site. I’m obviously a Nokia/symbian evangelist, so you know.
@ Robert:
Oh ok, cool. That’s what I thought. I was just making sure.
NOKIA STRONG!!!11!!1q
just 2 more days…
I really do hope the N900 is available in Canada soon. It looks beyond amazing. As for all the isheep out there, THIS is a way beyond and iphone killer, this is a game changer. BTW christexaport, great entry: http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/009/08/chris_truth_about_nokia_symbian_maemo_the_n900_and_n97.htm
I am on both sides of this – I love nokia and nokia phones a lot, but I also see how they have completely donkeyed their shot at the US market, threw away a ~10 year tech lead on their competitors, and have made a bunch of other piss-poor decisions…
After the first day of Nokia World, I think everyone is wrong. Nokia has done it again.
@ Paulysworld,
thanks for reading.
If you want TMobileUSA to carry the N900, register and let them know on the thread on their forums.

Surprise, surprise, this nokia-communicator release is a little bit boastful but the question is “what’s the difference of it” between the Droid Release and iPhone.. err, except on the spelling?
– Hopefully, the people who waited for this release won’t be turned down… Again.

anyway Its good to see Nokia finally release a new breed of their communicator series, I just hope it won’t turn out to be another “average” phone.
this phone is sick…across the board. Not an iphone, but then again nothing is an iphone.
apples to oranges if you ask me, i would gladly trade in my iphone for one.
