Motorola holding Android event on September 10th
Hello, Android. Are you ready for the moment you’ve been waiting for, Moto fans? It looks like Motorola is finally getting ready to dish at least some preliminary info with regards to its Android efforts. No word yet on what exactly will go down at the September 10th event but if we had to wager a guess, it will involve a call to developers, Blur, the Sholes and/or the Morrison. Actually, we’re hearing that the Sholes will absolutely, positively, 100 percent be unveiled at the event but we’ve yet to hear what else Moto has in store. We’ll be on hand from start to finish of course — for one thing so that we can deliver you guys live details as things unfold, but mainly so that we can molest whatever sexy handsets Moto shows off at the event.

Technically Palm could license WebOS to Motorola. They said they might but it’s not a “religious thing” as Rubenstein put it.
hope they have a surprise in store like an unknown phone or really compelling UI. Android 2.0 with Eric Schmidt or other Google execs would be a start.

i remember when Moto was the Apple of the cell phone industry. they would release a killer phone that everyone wanted into a sea of crap and made a ton of money for a few years on something that didn’t offer much more functionality than everyone else.

This thing’s great, trust me. We’ve been working our asses off for 2+ years on it, 100s of man-years of work. It’ll knock your socks off.
Buy American? What does that even mean? IPhone? *Plenty* of American jobs are tied up in BlackBerry, Nokia, etc.
And *none* of these devices are made here, so…
Lastly, I’m *not* buying Moto over BlackBerry so I can “buy American.” I remember when I bought a Q after years of BlackBerry usage. I was totally fucked up!

Yah but Motorola is the inventor of cell phones and pretty much the only American cell Manufacturer besides the up & coming Apple. You’ll never catch me with a Nokia Haha Finnish.

Moto better get this right. They have continued to fumble, bumble and stumble through the smartphone wars. Android is the perfect solution for them, but why couldn’t they deliver a phone in 2008 like HTC. VZW is still looking for a touchscreen personal smartphone (sorry BB Storm and Samsung Omnia) to battle the Jesus Phone while ATT still has its exclusive deal, so at least one great opportunity still exists. But, Moto must deliver a first class EVDO Android phone NOW or they will surely be overrun.
