Verizon Wireless releasing OS 4.7.1.42 for BlackBerry Tour soon?

File this one under the rumor category for now (oh check that, we did), but we’ve been told that the next OS release for Verizon’s BlackBerry Tour (and consequently Sprint’s as well, we assume) will be OS 4.7.1.42. No major changes but hopefully this fixes those random slowdown and lag problems a few people seem to be having. Again, not confirmed, but worth reporting we feel.

Thanks, Dev!

    @Jay –

I don’t have that option on my tour for ‘wireless update’. could it be somewhere else? i went to options -> advanced options, and the last item listed for me is tcp/ip

Is the trackball a hardware or a software issue? I have heard some people say its hardware. I hope its software so it can be fixed without me having to swap the phone out.

I also do not have a wireless update in my advanced options. Any one know how to get that added?

I have the weird call timer thing – were it keeps 2 times for a call you are on and shows them to you both as you end the call. I get very very occasional trackball lag – but beyond that – this phone is solid. I love this thing. So much better than my Storm ever was.

That’s a CDMA vs. GSM issue. GSM (Bold) can do it CDMA (Tour, Storm, Curve, Pearl…anything) can’t.

i had the tour and just traded it in for the iphone and no regrets. just turn off 3g and no dropped calls. surfing on edge isn’t actually that bad. i was very disappointed with the tour call quality.

Just turn off 3G? LOL isn’t it the whole point of having a 3G iPhone? Why don’t you give it up, get a 2G on Ebay, jailbreak it and pop in a Tmo card with data.

Hopefully this fixes the inability to change the “A” & “Q” shortcut keys. Why have two different buttons the the Tour that does the same thing? The lock button on the top right does EXACTLY the same thing as the “A” shortcut key and cannot be changed.

According to VZW it is a software issue that RIM is looking into should be fixed within 30 days of the release per vzw rep.

@spamsink – this is all true, but I wanted MobileMe and I read that it doesn’t work over tmo. i was with verizon for years and att is not that bad for dropped calls. I am in sf bay area and ATT is supposedly horrible, but Edge seems pretty decent for voice. I guess their 3g is the problem. this is a major compromise I know, but I needed the ota syncing for my business.

There are several problems with my Tour. (And I have already swapped the unit with Verizon three times.) First problem is I am told by callers that my voice on phone sounds muffled, although clearer (but tinny) when using the wired headset. Second problem is horizontal trackball frustration, even when raising the sensitivity setting, as has been talked about on numerous forums. Third problem is the inability to see the text in the body of any email that has an attachment. I use a BES, and can only retrieve the text portion of these emails when i forward the email to a gmail account and have it sent back to my Tour. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN RIMM QUALITY CONTROL and would now seriously consider an alternative, such as iPhone if and when it comes to Verizon.

I have a number of Tour problems. Bad bluetooth connection, poor headset integration, application transition lag etc…

I’ve heard the new OS will address these – yeah right…

Has anyone swapped the device for a new one and had improvements??

I’m thinking of just getting a new one instead of waiting for the OS.

swapped out my Tour twice! First for muffled voice complaints. Second for bad trackball. On my third and final now, and still have problems with callers telling me i sound muffled at times, lousy horizonal trackball response, and also lags at times. Also BIG problem where I can’t get the text of emails that have attachments sent from my BES. If these issues are not resolved soon, I’ll be visiting the Apple store.

I’m still waiting for Japanese text input to be available on something other than the Bold. Its ridiculous. The fonts are all there on the Tour, just not the bit of application that allows you to input. Supposedly the fix is going to roll out this year too.

Still waiting for this update! Any idea when it is expected to be released? Trackball and opening attachments from BES a real pain in the *** and I am ready to abandon blackberry soon.

I’m on my second Tour and sending it back now too for an 8830. The first one had the trackball problem AND the sound problem. I went into a Verizon store (within my 30 day return window) and the biotch there did a quick test and declared my phone perfectly fine. LOL. I left the store, dialed *611 and got a new phone that way. This one has a trackball that works, but a 11 minute boot time, lots of dropped calles, and occasional muffled talk. Oh, and I don’t bother using bluetooth anymore because people can’t hear me. I just can’t put up with it anymore. It’s junk.

I have the exact same problem with my timer – for a while it made me worry that my phone was being tapped and the two end times were related to something along those lines! Glad to see someone else has the same issue at least. These two end times are all over the board – they don’t seem to have any significance to anything else going on with the phone, like another call or message, or anything else that I can relate the first end time to. The second end time is always the accurate length of the call… still wondering what the first end time means… Any thoughts? Think this will be fixed??

    okay..

i am really p’d off as well. Here is he situation…
MY VOICE IS MUFFLED on “the ohter end.” Everyone complains about it. The fix? (which is f’n rediculous…) you need to cup your hand so the sound is more directed to the mic. It does work…but it feels totaly unnatural.

I got my first tour just five days ago. Dropped EVERY call in my house. I had the 8830 for two years with no problems. Verizon had the nerve to tell me they don’t guaranteee quality inside. I explained it dropped my calls in the drive-way also.

I just got a replacement and same problem. Muffled voice, missed calls, poor signal. This phone is cool, but has some pretty major issues.

What disappoints me most is no ‘acknowledgement’ by Verizon or RIM that there is a problem. The reps just lie and say they never heard of the problem. How can you not have heard of this problem?
