Palm now accepting paid app submissions for App Catalog

We’re not sure who should be more excited about this news, to be honest. On one hand, developers can finally take a major step toward actually making money from webOS. On the other hand, Pre owners are now a giant leap closer to having more than 30-something apps. It really could be a toss up. The bottom line is the slow and painful ordeal that is Palm’s handling of all things app-related took a step forward today as Palm announced to developers that paid app submissions to the App Catalog are now being accepted. While paid apps aren’t slated to hit the App Catalog for a while yet, any news is good news at this point. So, Pre fans, what are some apps you’re desperately hoping to see pop up in the App Catalog once the faucet is finally turned on?

Yeah, if by successful you mean 49,500 useless, stupid, crap applications and 500 decent ones. And I’m probably being generous on the 500.

I’m glad Palm is taking their time with this. Apple’s app store is just another marketing ploy (albeit very successful) that really only goes skin deep. For people who really want a good product, they look at things like memory, processor, etc. Everybody else will get a second-rate device with a bunch of shiny features.

Whats going keep the App Catalog from turning into the App Store will initially be based on the minimum price for paid apps. If it’s 99 cents, then I’ll definitely be porting over my app :D

Don’t forget the 138 homebrew App’s that are available right now. From what I’ve been reading from the developers they are going to submit them to palm’s app catalog. Each week they keep developing pretty decent App’s.

I think it’s really funny that all the anti-apple fanboys are finding ways to say apples app store sucks or palms will be better. I mean face it, noone can touch apples iTunes or app store. Get over it.

If the homebrew scene is any indication, there are going to no shortage of high quality apps for WebOS. The platform will in part dictate the quality of the apps, and WebOS is a solid platform. For example, its great to see how background notifications are already being used by the homebrew devs to let yourun multiple great apps (MyTether, PrePod, Twee) all at the same time without them tripping over each other. When other carriers get in on the fun, I’m sure there’ll be even more momentum.
