BlackBerry App World hits the Web

The good news: BlackBerry fans can finally get their App World fix on their computers. The bittersweet news: App World’s desktop experience is way better than its on-device experience. RIM has just launched a new Web-based version of its App World offering, allowing users to browse the catalog in its entirety from any desktop browser (or even a decent mobile browser). The new interface is awesome but it’s not all ponies and lollipops, unfortunately. There are plenty of things we’d like to see improved in Web-based App World going forward; most importantly, it needs to be better integrated with the on-device portal. Currently, when you find an app you like all you can do is email a link to your Berry. Lame. We want deeper integration — mark apps of interest on the website and they should automatically jump to a flagged page the next time you open App World on your device. There are a few other things we would like to see implemented soon but since the site is fresh out of the oven, we’ll give RIM some time to flush things out a bit. In the meantime, hit the read link to browse App World on the Web and let us know what you think.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

That’s pretty cool. You can browse apps now on your desktop… Cuz the mobile app world site is so slow in my 8830! -(yeah I know)

Anyway, this is a good sign, at least, for users out of US or UK like us.

Why not just go to the site via your Blackberry browser? On the iPhone I can easily. . .oh, wait, that’s right. Forget I said anything.

Maybe RIM needs to build a computer. If only the “clunky, boxy hardware with dated OS and physical keyboard” market, weren’t so saturated, RIM would have a winner!

ironically AppWorld already has Madden 2010 while Apple will get it sometime in the future. downside is that the graphics on the blackberry version look like commodore 64 quality graphics

Why do iphone users have to stick their nose in, apple obviously set the bar we all know that, they should be happy that all the other phone manufacturers have had to raise their game. Long live the bold !!!!

You know what’s funny about the whole app comparison thing. I have an iPhone and a BlackBerry and honestly, beyond the fact that the app is just more “fun” to use on the iPhone, the same app (as many of the apps that are from DEVELOPERS and not 16 year old boys with Macs are available for both platforms) is typically more functional on the BlackBerry since Apple limits how much you can tie in the app to the iPhone.

For example: Facebook wins on BlackBerry. Why? Wireless sychronization between your facebook contacts (birthdays, numbers, aim, etc.). You get nadda on iPhone.

Reqall: BlackBerry wins since u can pull it up via the BlackBerry menu key and save anything as a note that will import it into Reqall. On the iPhone have to create whatever u want to save in the app itself.

I could keep going on with dozens more apps, but the fact sort of still remains that if you want to be productive, even the apps are just typically more productive on the BlackBerry and the iPhone just has the wow factor and are more fun to use.

    To each his own.

I wonder why some users, BlackBerry Fanatics and iPhone Fanboys, feel like they have to denigrate each other to make themselves feel better. It’s a phone. It seems rather juvenile to the casual observer.

Good job RIM. I’ve been waiting for desktop functionality of the App World. I agree with BGR, I’d like increased integration with my BlackBerry device.

the entire reason for the existence of BGR is to give wothless products a pass no matter how stupid. They remind me of magazines who would never criticize their sponsors.

This is cool, but theres a new site called Appboy that recently launched that addresses all comments BG is making, its also a social network for App developers and users, the sites very well done, you get your own viral url which is your profile page and personal appstore, you can add apps like youtube, comment, vote, even submit ideas that the community votes on to get developed…i thought it was cool http://www.appboy.com

I usually applaud anything that RIM does but I feel that RIM has worked to make their web-App-store hard to use.

To scan any category you need to do multiple mouse clicks. Have these people never heard of arrow keys?

it amazes me how defensive and heated people get over a fucking phone..these two devices are completely different and appeal to different users..iphone-entertainment,enjoyment-weak attempt at business email etc

blackberry-business with a weak attempt at taking some of iphones pie in the entertainment department..
