Facebook 3.0 submitted to the App Store

It’s time to whip out your rosary/tallit/tasbih/whatever and start praying like you’ve never prayed before. That’s right folks, Facebook 3.0 has just been submitted to the App Store. We’re not insinuating that we believe one of Apple’s App Store approval monkeys will roll his or her icosahedral die and have it settle on “deny the app without cause just for the hell of it” (actually, we are), but we just can’t stand waiting another day for the fifteen new features Facebook 3.0 has in tow. Hit the jump for the complete change log.

Thanks, Tony!

  • The “new” News Feed
  • Like
  • Events (including the ability to RSVP)
  • Notes
  • Pages
  • Create new photo albums
  • Upload photos to any album
  • Zoom into photos
  • Easier photo tagging
  • Profile Pictures albums
  • A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
  • Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
  • Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
  • Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
  • Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call

If you’re a bit sour that Facebook 3.0 will not feature Push Notifications (which is to debut in Facebook 3.1), just remember what dear old dad told you before you went out on your first date: beggars can’t be choosers.

    @Astromanaught,

    I’m so impressed by my sprint bb curve. You can’t talk on the phone and surf the Internet at the same time.

    Too bad apple will deny the app for ::
    1) containing adult content (through posts by users) and
    2) duplicate the function of “safari” by accessing an Internet connection, a well as
    3) duplicate the SMS/phone functions by allowing you to call someone by tapig the one number (like google voice app) and
    4) some other silly excuse

    Yuh see when people like astromannaught open their mouths or even type nonesense like this, iz when educated guys like us get a bit upset. And because we defend reliable, durable, hasstle-free products that Apple roll out, we are deemed, ‘fanbois.’
    It is true that the iPhone is a phenomenal device.
    Is it perfect? Absolutely not!
    Is it better than the other products that they have out there? Damn straight up and down it is!!!
    People complain about trivial shyt!
    With 16GB on a cellular device, do you have to have room for expansion via memory sticks? No you don’t have to have to.
    With 32GB on a phone, do you have to have a micro sd card? DO you really?
    All smartphones do web browsing but which one does it better? All smartphones with cameras have photo viewers, but which one does music and photos and email better?
    A toy? Because maybe 2/3 of the apps sold are games? What about the myriads of utilities that are available? The applications that are available for doctors to help with their patients and book readers and security monitors…?
    Security deployment? The iPhone is not secure…
    Isn’t there an iPhone Configurity tool that can is used for the deployment of iPhone settings and profiles from website restriction to exchange email configuration, IMAP push email services, Accessibility and restriction options down to even passcodes and remote wipe options? Not only IT has access to this but the general public- any end user!
    Background processing may not be officially sanctioned by the SDK but everything else still works.
    MMS was not officially supported by the platform but it was there still thanks to Swirly.
    Video recording was not official for a long time now and now that it is, it’s frikkin awesome!
    Everyone complained about physical keyboard and touchscreen keyboard that and now every major handset manufacturer has an onscreen keyboard.
    Toy? Yeah, the iPhone is the best toy when we want it to. From Sonic to Need for Speed.
    The iPhone can be the best compass it wants with Compass Go to the native Compass app on the 3GS.
    We may not have inboxes or outboxes or drafts but the SMS app is the best in its class!
    As a medical assistant- from The Nervous System Pro 3D to MIM Vista and Life record, doctors can write prescriptions right o their iPhone. Ask the doctors at Doylestown Hospital.
    Check Kraft foods and USA Today. And not only do they use the iPhone as is which is a robust platform but if they need the phone customized to suit their needs, their IT department create, develop and launch the apps for them. How often is this done for the Blackberry and other smartphones apart from security and email configurations?
    I can go on and on. We got more than 60,000 reasons to use iPhone. I’m sure your blackberry does not give you those options.

    And this facebook app is just another one in there!

    the facebook app for the iphone is WAYY better then the one for blackberry. and the iphone cant multitask yet because apple is saving it for when it is needed most. like in 3.0 copy and paste fits perfectly with the search feature. multi tasking should be on 4.0 or the new iphone and ipod touch so stop yelling at apple for having good ideas.

    @Marco,
    Since your average bb app is 500k and all your apps can’t go past the first gb of storage it shouldn’t be too hard. There are already apps in the apple app store that are larger than 1gb

    @Peter. Background limitations aside, I’m referring to a limitation of the facebook app. Other apps will still pick up where you left off when the phone rings.

    And for all the people who still mask their insecurities with “iPhone is a toy” cries. I am a business professional who converted from blackberry to iPhone. Still impressed with iPhone.

    Finally why do these forums get so personal? ” you have phone different of teh phone i uses, you are bad person, I attax you, win at interwebs”.

    Fail.

    @Peter
    Your right! And your battery also drains to hell when you have IM and Facebook all running in the background keeping the radio going because it is constantly connected. At least on the iPhone the program isn’t open, not keeping my radio going, and can STILL notify me of changes. Seriously one thing that was a pain in the ass with WM was the fact I had to manage running apps all the time. I shouldn’t have to manage my phone. I should just pick it up and use the damn thing.
