Samsung Galaxy i7500 to hit O2 stores next week?

If a report from the hit or miss Register Hardware blog pan out, Samsung’s highly anticipated freshman Android offering could make its debut as soon as next week. According to the post, various O2 retail staff have confirmed that the Galaxy i7500 is now listed in their inventory system and shipments will arrive next week. That’s not to say the phone will launch next week but if retail locations actually do receive these alleged shipments, we can certainly expect a launch shortly thereafter. O2 would not confirm the Register’s report, saying only that the handset would launch “in the next few weeks”. We’ve been waiting for the i7500 ever since we first confirmed it to be Samsung’s virgin venture into Android back in April so we’re definitely excited by the possibility of seeing it finally launch — albeit outside the US. 528MHz processor, 3.2-inch capacitive OLED display, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8GB of internal memory… Importers, start your engines.

Don’t everyone comment at once. What happened to the luster surrounding this thing? I think Sense UI took a byte out of it.

I would think about getting one if ATT or Sprint offered it.

@wallyson: I think it’s having the same problem the Magic/MyTouch has now. What was great hardware paired with a great OS a year ago is pretty meh right now. I don’t care about Sense, but I do care that it’s largely similar hardware to the Dream and Magic, only with a better camera and more storage. Given that OMAP3 and Snapdragon handsets are already on the market, this thing seems kind of outdated by comparison. It’s still the best Android phone on the market, IMO, but I’d personally like to see something with Pre or 3GS-level hardware paired with Android goodness. Right now Android hardware is playing catch-up, I’d prefer it to be leading the pack.

The mytouch is actually pretty sweet. You might want to check it out first.

I’m so tired of all these Android phones with the same boring spec’s, Especially the same old small 3.2″ screen. No Multimedia phone should have a screen smaller than 3.5″. I sold my G1 because of the viewing issues caused by the small fonts & inability to zoom any app but the browser. Try to quickly view a text message while sitting at a stop sign, it’s impossible.

It’s blah because of the network offerings. Our church staff tried the G1 experiment for a year on T-mobile and just recently had to give it up and head back to Verizon. When people run crying into the open arms of the Storm, you can see just how important actual service is. Said it before and now again: when Android gets released via a device on the Verizon network it will EXPLODE!
