Dell’s smartphone pictured again, spec’d, other Android details

One of our trusty ninjas just blessed us with the following information: first up, real pictures of Dell’s Chinese market smartphone code-named Benzine. Just as TechCrunch reported, we’ve been told the handset is “launch ready.” Here are the full specifications for this Dell smartphone:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE class 12
  • Size: 68.6cc
  • 103g grams weight
  • Dimensions: 58 x 122 x 11.7mm
  • Display: 3.5″ nHD 640×360 LCD, 18-bit, 262K colors
  • OTA capable
  • Microsoft Exchange support
  • Google, AIM, Yahoo and MSN IM support
  • 3 megapixel auto-focus, flash, 8x digital zoom camera with 30fps video shooting mode, built in photo editor
  • USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • A-GPS
  • On-screen QWERTY keyboard, hardwriting recognition, multi touch UI
  • MicroSD slot

If that wasn’t enough, our source told us that the Motorola Android phone headed to Verizon isn’t called the “Shules” it’s the SHOLES (arguing over code-names, are we?) and it’s a 13.7mm slider. Better still, we were told to mark our calendars for a late September launch of the Motorola Morrison on T-Mobile.

Happy Android day, guys!

And what exactly does Dell hope to achieve by releasing this generic spec’d android phone?

SHOLES, Shules, whatever – both spell “dumb name” to me.

My NE2 kicked in yesterday. I’m in a holding pattern with my old school enV for now. I’ve got my eye on the following:

HTC Touch Pro2 (WinMo sucks so much though)
    Motorola Dumb Name
    Blackberry Atlas
    Blackberry Storm 2
    Palm Pre (2010?!)

Considering the quality of Camera phones today, you have to stop and wonder if BGR is faking this photos. Come on! How many shots have we seen that are mysteriously “blurry” on this site.

And BGR happens to get the scoop on them all? Look at their ratings and then look at other sites like Engadget.

I appreciate the insightful stories fellows but stop PS’ing this shit yourself. It degrades you site just to sell some ads.

As long as it isn’t a resistive touch screen, I would be willing to replace my iPhone for it.

Twoboxen – good point. After reading about sluggish Sense UI on the Hero I’ve become curious about processors/RAM on the Android phones.

Honestly, the specs aren’t bad on this phone. The picture of it leaves a lot to be disired though. I’m curious about the battery size with it being that light though?? Does that not include the battery at 103 grams?

Benzine? You think they meant benzene. Either way not getting it, remind me too much of organic chemistry.

@grrr Ya bro. I understand that. But seriously, you know the shots I’m talking about. The ones of the rumored phones that aren’t even out yet. I.E. Blackberry Magnum? The Dell above?

See a pattern here or are you just brainwashed?

lmao @ grr.. @ midibite to me it seems there are so many blurry shots because you have to use a small crappy cam when no one is looking.. if your boss pulls out a hush hush prototype i doubt you will be able to pull out the 10 mp w/ flash and do a photoshoot in the office..

This is really a nice review!
This seems to introduced another latest/new trend in phones.

Thanks for this very helpful information.

Interesting…I could do without the grey stripe, and huge Dell logo on the back but I’m more interested in knowing:

-What kind of CPU is this going to have? Clock speed?

-Internal memory? At least 256MB I hope.

-They even added a flash to go with the camera.

    Nice touch Dell.
