The good news: Orange’s LG GD910 watch phone is not £1,000

The bad news: it’s €899. Subsidized. On contract. Seriously. Orange has finally made LG’s highly anticipated GD910 Watch Phone official, confirming it will be the phone’s exclusive carrier in Europe. The sleek 3G touchscreen handset wristset is available immediately in France and the aforementioned price is tied to “an Origami star, first, jet or Origami plus package (12 or 24-month contract).” Unsurprisingly, no contract-free pricing is listed. We’re really interested to see where this thing goes to be honest. Here’s our conundrum: If you have €899 (about $1,300) to spend on a phone, you should already be rocking a pretty solid watch, no? Not necessarily anything too crazy per se, but a solid timepiece that you probably spent at least a few grand on. In fact, odds are good you have several nice watches to choose from each morning. Now you’re going to replace them with a Watch Phone? One that you have to wear each and every day — because it’s your phone — unless you swap the SIM constantly? Sorry guys, we’re just not seeing it. If you are seeing it however, and you think $1,300 on contract is a fair price, it’s time to pack up your things and move across the pond as we can’t imagine that this little guy is going to make it to the US any time soon — FCC approval or not.

Imagine calling it in lost or Stolen.

ME: “Yeah, someone stole my watch”
    Orange CS: “And?”
ME: “I’d like you to suspend the service”
    Orange CS: “On your Watch?”

Nick, that wasn’t the least bit funny. I don’t know what the privileges that this watchphone provides that a mobile phone doesn’t. I guess the convenience it would have connecting with a Bluetooth could be an answer, but other than that it just seems like a huge waste of pillsbury dough boy.

From everything I’ve seen about this phone you get a bluetooth with it and half to make calls with the bluetooth. It amuses me how everytime I’ve told someone about this phone they instinctively start talking into their wrist.

And Nick dont worry, it was mildly amusing. Even more so had you replaced Orange with T-Mo since I doubt any of them know about this.

    This is wrong. failed idea.

A bluetooth watch would make more sense, something that shows caller ID, calender alerts, txt mgs previews, weather, sports etc

The writer of this column is dead right. Buyers of this phone will come in on eof the two categories, at 1300 or 899 Euro only guys or gals who own a watch worth substantially more will or be in the market, and that includes me. Unless I can see myself using a watch on both hands, it is never going to stick. In the 300 or 400 Euro rage , yes there will be takers, as these segment wont mind using a watch of this calibre. I am a Richard Mille user, but I like the possibility of trying out the GD910, but not at 1300, because it is a waste of money to use it for a few days.
