Nokia N86 8MP lands in the US on August 22nd, MSRP $499?
Ready to get your NAM on, Nokia fans? Nokia’s first crack at an 8 megapixel beast is reportedly touching down stateside on August 22nd, which is just over 2 weeks away. But wait, there’s more good news in store for all you Symbian fans out there. It turns out the launch price of the N86 8MP may be lower than the current pre-order price — $59 lower, in fact. Yup, it’s looking like $499 will get you in the door when this little guy hits Flagship store shelves and NokiaUSA.com three Saturdays from now. No word on pricing from resellers yet but expect it to come in a bit lower than Nokia USA’s offering. And then there’s Amazon, which has been undercutting nearly everyone in the phone biz lately. In other words, waiting a few weeks on your purchase will likely serve you well.
Thanks, Mark!

Can Jim Nantz call the Masters on the N86? Hello friends…
If the picture quality on the camera is good as the Cybershot on AT&T, I will pick this up instead.
Any possibility of a review BGR?
@Bourne
the picture quality is better than the c905 and the video is the best on the market, especially with it’s low light sensitivity.

check out allaboutsymbian.com too, they have a pretty good review of the device as well
@milan,
Yeah this may sound stupid but this phone is intriguing to me because I want a phone I can take out on the weekends or to places I would take a camera so I can have an all in one device (less shit to lose or break). Do you think it would b suitable as a replacement for a Sony cybershot 8.1 mp point and shoot type camera?

@ milan
Thanks for the info. This handset will be purchased as soon as it pops up on Amazon.
@ StevenGlansburg,
This device is wonderful, and sets the standard for mobile imaging quality at any camera resolution. It’s not a touchscreen, which is good for me. I consider this device the real flagship, since this is still S60 3rd Edition, and there are a ton of apps for it, and the user experience is great when coupled with the freely downloadable Jbak Taskman task manager, which recreates a new way to traverse the supposedly clunky interface in a breeze. That’s how most people I know use S60, not the default way, and its nearly perfect. Had it had the screen size and resolution of the N97, I’d call it King of all Smartphones right now.
As for the camera, the Sony Cybershot has the same lens, but a different sized sensor, I believe, so the point and shoot would be better. The fact that the Nokia is so good that the quality losses would be nearly negligible in comparison is what makes the phone so great. I doubt you’d miss your camera, and I doubt it does full DVD quality video capture with TV out and a web connection to instantly post those videos online, either.
I say go for it.
This is a full featured smartphone with the most stable multitasking in the business, and the Cybershot is a mere featurephone. There should be little comparison beyond the cameras, and the Nokias have the best camera optics in the business.
@christexaport,
Thanks a lot for the info. It sounds like answer to my camera or phone issue. I’m gonna have to check it out.

@ Steve
Not a dumb question at all, i’m getting it for the same reason, mainly I had a nice canon point and shoot that i rarely used bc i never wanted to carry that in one pocket and my phone in the other. The n86 is probably the first cameraphone that you could use as a standalone camera (samsung pixon too). I won’t beat out a high end 8mp shooter, but unless you really know your photography you wouldn’t notice a difference anyway.
the key to the device is the cariable aperature and low light sensitivity that allows you to take great shots in low light without the flash and it’s amazing for video.
i used to have a n82 that i would use during the night or when i went out and it was perfect bc of the T9, but then i broke it and was stuck with my iphone. Using the iphone when drinking is a horrible experience and the camera blows so i’m looking forward to this phone, just wished it came out sooner.
also, it’s been rumored that nokia will have a new camera monster with 12mp and optical zoom come 2010. should be interesting.
