HTC’s Sense UI ported to Windows Mobile; don’t get too excited

Assuming that some day we’ll see a usable build on a more updated handset — this is awesome. Xda-developer forum member zenulator has managed to manhandle the HTC Hero’s Sense UI and stuff it into an HTC Vogue-compatible package. The Vogue, also known as the HTC Touch, is not what we would call a modern, capable handset. As such, Sense basically destroys the handset and brings a new meaning to the word ‘boggy’. Albeit 100% unusable, it’s an awesome start and a proof of concept that will hopefully light a fire under the WinMo hacking community. Think of the possibilities… HTC’s Sense UI on a Snapdragon-powered Toshiba TG01? Oh hell yeah. But back to the matter at hand, you’ll find a video of the aforementioned port below along with a link to the Google Code page. Two recommendations: 1) Don’t bother installing Sense UI just yet and 2) start the video around 3:30 to avoid a whole lot of waiting. And yes, guy who recorded the video, we totally saw that iPhone unlock screen you’re rocking. Ouch. Hit the jump for the video.

    btw, this isn’t really porting it to windows mobile, its a port of Android on the Vogue with the native Android version of the Sense UI widgets, etc. Haret unloads Windows and boots into Linux.

    The non-Sense UI versions actually run quite well but the additional resources required to run all the Sense stuff eat up the RAM (mostly) and CPU of the Vogue.

    I believe the reason it was running so sloppy was because it was running on top of Windows Mobile, or is that Windows Phone? Bah.

    It runs slow both due to a lack of ram (the Vogue only has 128MB) and because everything runs off a slower sdcard rather than internal ROM. Windows is not running once Android starts up.

    Read about this on PocketNow last nite. They had this and another video of SENSE in 2 diff PPC’s, so I guess it works on more windows phones than the Touch? Possible to make it work on ones w/ fast speeds?

    How did SU2U become “an iPhone unlock screne”?
    Is that ignorance or Apple fanboyism at work?

    There were lots of people involved actually, this is a large collaboration of devs at xda.

    dzo, vilord, mssmision, zenulator and lots of other devs who are contributing to bringing this to other devices (not just the vogue).

    @paul

    Why did you have to be the dumbass to bring up the iPhone? And by the way there is a Sense theme for the iPhone currently in beta at modmyi forums.
