UPDATED: Bell to launch the Palm Pre on August 27th?
The last time we heard anything having to do with a release time frame for Bell’s Palm Pre, early August appeared to be the target — pending adequate levels of inventory of course. With sales of the Pre having peaked long ago south of the border, it looked as if Canadians could indeed be looking at an imminent launch. But then along comes big box electronic retailer Future Shop to spoil the hopes and dreams of many by posting up a pre-order teaser site for the Pre which lists August 27th as the release date. There’s no way to say for sure whether or not this date is just for Future Shop or all Bell dealerships and retailers, but something tells us it’ll be a few weeks yet until Canadians get their first taste of webOS.
UPDATE: And now it’s official. The Palm Pre will launch on August 27th for $199.95 on a 3-year contract or $599.95 off contract “with a minimum 500 MB data plan.”

first (whats the point of this?)
It was a very quick sales peak for Sprint. I was in my local Sprint store to pick up an airave they were giving me for free, and the manager was saying they sold the first couple of weeks but sales of Palm Pre have died down a lot. They can’t sell them on the higher priced plans anymore.
Congratulations Bell, you have a shoddy built, bug infested cell coming your way…enjoy.
Signed,
Guy who returned 4 Palm Pres
nice the palm pre has got to be the best thing sense sliced bread, I like it better then my old iphone, pluss I never drop calls with sprint, unlike gayT&T witch it happed all the time…
^ John…did you get past the 6th grade?
Im not so sure about this. Bell is one of those comapnies who are ripping Canadians off with their services here in Canada. Personally Id prefer Telus to be having it. I wouldn’t (assuming a lot of other Canadians wouldn’t) get the Pre cause of Bell.
P.S. I had to pay $3.44 per minute with Bell homephone for a long distance call to America.
at bell has better plans. you can get 450 minutes with unlimited data for 60 bucks. where as rogers offers 250m and 1gb data for $70 on the iPhone.
Ali,
How do you get that deal (450 min + unlimit data) from Bell? It’s not posted on retail site. Is it one of those call up threaten to leave talk to customer retention rep negotiation deals?
@ John
You’re opinions are awsome. And your better then sliced bread! And gayT&T! Haha!Your so right.
@ John and Sir Charles – did either of you graduate high school?
Ooo, Cm. I’m sorry to inform you that what I used was a literary device known as sarcasm. It’s pretty easy to identify as well, with the seemingly deliberate, incorrect uses of “your” and “you’re”. Nice try though, big boy.
I am new to country, many apologies for lack of understanding sarcasm. Cm = Fail.
A little to late of a launch. Look at telus launching the touch pro 2 now and also the snap. I think bell needs to do better with launches and their marketing. That’s my opinion.
What happened to sprints exclusivity(sp)?
I think that’s only in the US.
It’s now official Apple/AT&T are the new cripplers in the cell phone industry.
“It’s now official Apple/AT&T are the new cripplers in the cell phone industry.”
That is your manifestly minority opinion. The one most open, Sprint is losing customers because their service generally sucks and they keep raising prices.
The less open systems, ilke AT and Apple are gaining customers.
To say closed is bad is like saying iPod and iTunes will fail, it just betrays a lack of knowledge on what people want — a consistent and easy to use product/service.
