We’ve been sitting on the Shules for a few months now but since renders/details and a live pic of the upcoming Moto have already been leaked, our ninja gave us the green light. Behold… Shules (no, of course that won’t be the launch name). As for additional details, first and foremost we’re told that this handset is not the Calgary we scooped exclusively last year. It’s a different handset entirely and the Calgary is still in development from what we understand. It’s also not a QWERTY retooling of the Flash, which some have speculated. Our guess is the Flash will still drop on Verizon sometime next year, just as the myTouch 3G is a full touchscreen follow up to the QWERTY-sporting G1; that’s just speculation, however. Also bear in mind that these pictures — including the one leaked yesterday — are old. This handset is a prototype and we’re hoping it has been refined a bit since these shots were taken. Of course, we’d be plenty happy to take this sexy 3.7-inch touchscreen-rocking Android phone as-is but we’d love to see the production model come a tiny bit closer to the renders. Would I be incorrect in assuming that if that chin makes it to the actual product, that typing on this thing for any period exceeding 30 seconds is going to be a pain the ass?
Also the flat smallish keys on the keyboard don’t have me excited.
It’s an Android smart phone heading to Verizon with a 3.7 touch screen so I’m paying attention to it definitely. Some things in these pics are a cause for concern though imo

This phone is UGLY and the keyboard looks crappy! Keyboards that are so flush are hard to type on. Blackberry keyboards are the best hands down. And I am not a Blackberry fanboy!

Motorola has experience to make comfort keyboard like Motorola Q9; this is fact. After BlackBerry look and feel how comfort they finger when use Motorola Q9h and then they copy and make BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Javeline and more.

This phone looks sweet. BGR hates Moto, its so crazy. If this phone does come out in Oct its going to sell a lot… a whole lot. -And the Bold did jack the Q9h keyboard. Thats a fact!

I think that the D-Pad would be great for business users, you could use it like arrow keys. If you were editing a document and you wanted to navigate around it, especially if it was in small print on the screen, you would not want to use your big finger to move the cursor; if you were editing a spreadsheet you could do big damage with your fingers.
The morrison has a D-pad on the left, so it is probably aimed at a different audience, for game playing, like many games devices that have it on the left.

The only reason that the renders look better is because of the colors, and the fact that the renders always look better. The weird color combinations on the Sholes aren’t waht I expect them to be.
When will Verizon get it through their thick skulls that people want good looking phones. They need to ovehaul their research & development team or at leat the person who oversees it. Their choice in product line designs sucks!!!! Don’t get me worng I love Vzw service, but every other carrier has the sharp looking phones. The Sholes is ugly as sin.

i have to be honest. so far, not impressed. i want to be. i really do. i think the iphone is a pos. i have never see something that does so little be so popular. i will have to wait to see what the final product looks and feels like. and more importantly, operate. but so far, ascetically, disappointed.
i could not agree more. they are making it hard for me to stick with them. as a smart consumer choosing substance over style. why the hell can’t i get both?!
The looks are defiantely lacking and the flat keyboard will be an issue. The Android operatin system is a big plus. I have been using the Touch pro 2 and the Imagio for the past few days. Windows 6.5 is a big step over 6.1. You may want to check these options out. I recommend the Imagio over Touch Pro 2.
