Palm App Catalog welcomes new apps with open arms, and open tables
We hope you’re sitting down, Pre people… Believe it or not, there’s a new app in the App Catalog this morning! More than one even! First up, the star of the show, Open Table has released its ever-popular reservations app for the Palm Pre. For those who aren’t familiar with the Open Table service, it allows you to find restaurants in your area and reserve a table at a time of your choosing all from within the app. You can even invite attendees with Open Table’s Pre app and it will add the reservation details to your calendar for you. Sweet. The app is free of course, since Open Table makes its money through deals with restaurants, and it’s available in the App Catalog immediately. Joining it is Fliq Bookmarks by Mark/Space, a bookmark sync utility that works alongside The Missing Sync to sync your Pre bookmarks with Safari. Not quite exciting but hey, at least it’s something. Am I happy they added new apps? yes.
But waiting all this time for only two (useless) apps is another thing.
I can look up places to eat with sprint nav.
The fliq bookmarks is nice if you have a lot of bookmarks you want to transfer from your comp to your pre. But I don’t and I doubt many others have a need to have a ton of less visited bookmarks on their pre.
Just my 2cents.
Major problem with “Open Table” app for Pre.
You can’t type in a restaurant name. So you can locate a restaurant by knowing in which neighborhood of a city you’re in. For example, in Philadelphia, there must be about 25 different neighborhoods – all with restaurants. So if someone said, “Hey…why don’t we make a reservation at “Restaurant A” but I don’t know in which neighborhood is”, then you have to load all restaurants in Philly and then scroll down to “Restaurant A”. That’s kinda dumb. You should be able to search for city and then type in a restaurant name. It’s not a difficult feature to produce. Actually, do we call a “search” function a “feature” anymore? It should be included, period.
For those that are bitching and moaning already… seriously!
They got to begin somewhere atleast be glad that u got something better than nothing.
If they don’t fit ur need then why not develop it yourselves? Its always easy to say, that is not so difficult to make, then make it happen chumps!

The major problem with the “Open Table” app is that Pre owners don’t ever go on dates, and even if they did, Burger King doesn’t accept reservations.
Perspective needs to get some of what the her/his screen name implies.
I agree with don louie. I have a pre and I go on many dates with my boyfriend.
Those generalizations are so stupid and only show your ignorance.
This reminds me of the GEM vs Windows days, when both operating systems were competing for new applications. Seems to me like iPhone is Windows…
