BlackBerry 8530 headed to Verizon, totes Wi-Fi

It’s no secret (well, maybe you just haven’t heard yet) that the freshly announced BlackBerry 8520 will come in a CDMA flavor as well. It also doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put together a full spec list for the BlackBerry 8530 variation, but we’ve received a spec sheet from one of our ninjas with a delightful confirmation. Here we go:
- 320×240 resolution screen
- 1xRTT, EV-DO
- QWERTY keyboard
- 2 megapixel camera
- OS 5.0
- Bluetooth
- Wi-Fi b,g
We told you all future Verizon BlackBerrys would have Wi-Fi, and this sticks to what was reported. It looks like Verizon’s BlackBerry lineup will be getting a little spread out too, which is a good thing. Low-cost BlackBerry Curve 8530 as an entry device, BlackBerry 8230 Flip for the soccer moms, BlackBerry Storm for the consumers, BlackBerry Tour for business users. We likey.

I dont care if Verizon gets this and Sprint does not cuz the tour is better and a wifi tour should be out roun January…If Sprint Gets the Hero and Verizon gets this later this year….it isnt a choice
I almost thought this was great until I noticed the camera, 2MP with not auto focus?? Thats so GSM, so Bold-like, so AT&T-esque. Now I can add Verizon to that list.
So how does this stack up vs. 8520?
Pros:
The 8530 has 3G, 8520 does not. ‘Nuff said.
Cons:
We know T-Mo’s 8520 will feature UMA calling at home and at HotSpots–same can’t be said for Big Red at this time. There are rumors Big Red will include hotspot access, but no word on voice over wifi (is it even necessary though?)
How does this phone compare to the specs on the HTC Ozone? They sound similar except for the Ozone’s Windows Mobile OS.
Nice specs for an entry level BlackBerry as of me I will patiently wait for the Storm 2!!!

@ Verizon Guy
Will the 8530 have EV-DO Rev. A? Also, do you know if its GPS chip will be unlocked like the one in the Ozone?
@True York,
Only time will tell.

Wifi on a world phone is no doubt that last thing that Verizon really wants.
It would represent a tremendous amount of lost revenue from international calls.
The type of person who buys a world phone typically travels. I had the 8830, and now the Tour. And when I travel, I reach for a friends iPhone with Skype whenever possible.
Otherwise, I use my phone and run up a bill.
CV, RIM made sure to have access to all thier apps
