RIM officially announces the BlackBerry Curve 8520
And yet another oft-leaked BlackBerry has become official as Research In Motion has finally announced the BlackBerry Curve 8520. Heading to T-Mobile USA and Vodafone UK in August, the BlackBerry 8520 is RIM’s latest attempt at luring in the average consumer to its line of smartphones with a very budget friendly price. In the UK, Vodafone UK subscribers should be able to get the 8520 at no charge provided they take on a contract with a monthly tariff of £25 or more (considerably cheaper than the average BlackBerry plan) while in the USA T-Mobile clients will have to wait a bit longer to find out just how much it is that they’ll be asked to pay. Since we’re sure that you’re all more than familiar with the specs of the 8520 by now, let’s just focus on one thing that that’s super cool about the 8520 — it’s compatible with OS X straight out of the box. Does this mean that the Mac version of Desktop Manager will debut before its scheduled September release? It certainly looks as if this is the case.

Thank freaking God!!! I’m getting rid of my 8900 for this dirty little thing. If Voda’s giving it away for free with a 2 year, I imagine the T Mo counterpart shouldn’t be any more than 50. The current going rate for T Mo’s entry BB is 50, so hopefully this thing doesn’t cost any more than that. Yay for Mac compatibility!
@Joe: Are you positive about switching your 8900 to a 8520? 8520 is meant to be a low end smartphone while 8900 is high end. I could see you replacing your 83xx and nothing more.

i have a Curve 8330 from Sprint that is 3G. yet this new Curve isn’t going to be 3G?

Trackpad nice. One less place for dust and gunk to collect.
Nokia E72 also has optical mouse and GPS.
Engadget claims it will be $129 with a 2 year contract on T Mobile…the 8900 is only $30 more

If this thing is 130 with a 2 year, T Mo is high and they can suck my trackballs.
Wonder how that trackpad works compared to the ball… That’s my only interest in this BB.
What is better? This new phone coming or the 8900?? HELP!! I want to upgrade my curve, what I wish t-mobile had was the blackberry TOUR like Verizon has,,that is a great phone.

Well, the 8900 has a better display and better camera (awesome camera). This one will feature the same screen as the current 83XX series, as well as the same camera. If this phone has a 2 year price of more than 100 dollars, just get the 8900 for 150 and have the cream of TMo’s BB crop. If it’s less than 100, it’s a great deal for a great phone.
The screen is higher resolution than the 83xx series if I’m not mistaken. And the camera is a 2mp camera…which is taken from the blackberry bold 9000.
This phone will not be more than $100. RIM would be high to sell it for more than that.
My corporate rep told me it would be more in the $50 range to replace their 8320
