More pics of Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 surface; announcement imminent?

Historically speaking, an increased frequency in live shots generally indicates that an official announcement isn’t far off. Sony Ericsson fans can only hope that’s the case as a new round of pics bubble up to show off the forthcoming Xperia X2 aka Vulcan lounging around with its underachieving little brother, the Xperia X1. Sure we’ve seen it before, a few times, but we haven’t yet grown tired of eying this sexy little SE number. Spec refresher:

  • 8.1 megapixel auto-focus, VGA video capture @ 30fps (MP4 HQ)
  • 3.5-inch WVGA OLED
  • GPS
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • Accelerometer
  • Faster processor
  • 512 RAM
  • Custom Windows Mobile 6.5
  • XPERIA Panels are modified with plenty of innovative features (PS3 remote play being one of them)
  • Upgradable to Windows Mobile 7

Still no word on pricing but hopefully the disaster that was the Xperia X1 will motivate SE to price this little guy a bit lower right out the gate. Hit the jump for more shots.

wow – that keyboard is awful. i hope they bring back the design from the x1 for their own sake… i don’t know if they know, but aesthetics are a great deal of what sells…

i would never buy the x2 if it looks like this, either i will buy another body for my current x1, or i will get the touch pro 2, no way like hell i want an ugly device….the front is ugly but it can pass, but hell no to the keyboard, that looks like a minature desktop keyboard…this is why i never bought a blackberry few years ago, bcos they all were ugly as hell back then

Actually, the keyboard doesn’t look that hideous. Looks more usable than the original. The face though is somewhat appauling.

Can’t imagine even putting that on a table for lunch with some fellow geeks or even new to smartphone peeps.

“What’s that? It’s huge and thick.” Embarrassment arises. “And it runs WinMo? Tee hee hee hee!”

My sanity has left the building.

SE just needs to go back to Symbian. Try the new touch or maybe just go to Android.

SE is not a usual phone manufacturer. Their designs aren’t like any other handsets available now, which makes me love what they are doing with the Experia line. They can’t be confused with any other phones out by other manufacturers.

So why would you go with an old tired OS on said hardware. What a waist!! Go with a new OS also SE. Friends will be impressed and want something that’s new and different. People love to be able to stand out and be different. Windows mobile is so Cantene talk. Not let’s put some miles on this puppy and see where we end up like OS X, Android, WEBos, and even Maemo.

Why would anyone go with the X2 when the X3 is pictured as well, would anyone choose WM over Android?

    @Sonya,

Be careful what you ask. Some of those fanboi’s will probably come out like an angry mob. Even if the question was valid. 

WinMo remind anyone of any other outdated, used to be hott things

I don’t think that’s a 3.5″ screen. By my measurements it looks to be 3.2″ at best. Its just a prototype but I find it unlikely they’ll change something like the screen size. I hope I’m wrong, but it looks like there will be some disappointment.

Just STFU about Windows Mobile already. Some people prefer their phones to actually be able to do stuff and would sacrifice a little eye candy.
