Rumor time: HTC Leo Edition

The internet is abuzz this morning with the rumor that a new clamshell smartphone is coming soon from HTC. Evidence of the handset, codenamed LEO, is said to have been found within a TouchFLO 3D 2.5 “Manilla” ROM. Its purported specs include a full-QWERTY keypad, external QVGA display, internal 16:9 WVGA display, support for OpenGL 2.0 and a Snapdragon processor. Mmm, Snapdragon. This rumor is pretty messy though, because there is every possibility that the Leo is actually the Omni — a device long rumored to be the successor of the HTC Universal, a Pocket PC that made its retail debut in late 2005. After all, when one thinks about it, the thought of HTC dropping a device it was rumored to be working on very early in 2007 just seems, well, so un-HTC.

It has potential. Depending on the actual size of this thing, that’s a pretty generous keyboard. I don’t know if I care for the external display on this one but it definitely fits that “seamless” look they seem to be going for. This might be alright. Let’s just hope it actually drops here in the US for less than 400 dollars on a 2 year sub.

@grrr: no one said it wasn’t. It is probably worth repeating though. Since so many people only seem to look at the pictures.

The pic and spec are both old, as grrr pointed out. They are the original specs quoted for what we now call Raphael, or HTC Touch Pro! Yeah, already done! LOL!

Maybe I’m missing something but last I checked the Touch Pro lacks an external VGA (no point), or Snapdragon or WVGA (but Touch Pro2 does).

No, the Touch Pro/Diamond does have external Video Out, and it can come in handy. But you have to have the optional HTC Video Out cable that plugs into the Touch Pro/Diamond’s extUSB port.

WVGA ended up on Touch HD. The Snapdragon part is the only thing they “added” to this updated rumor, but everything else reeks of the original Touch Pro concept.
