BlackBerry Desktop Manager: Coming soon to a Mac near you
Feet feeling a bit cold this afternoon, BlackBerry fans? Don’t worry, that’s just hell freezing over thanks to an announcement from RIM earlier this afternoon. No, seriously. By way of its Inside BlackBerry blog, RIM has put the world on notice — BlackBerry Desktop Manager is coming to OS X in September. Wooo! A quick rundown of highlighted features:
- Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks [if Apple doesn't find a way to kill it, of course]
- Add/Remove applications
- Update your device when new software becomes available
- Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption (security is #1 as always…)
- Manage multiple devices
We’re sure RIM will leave a bit of functionality out of its initial Mac builds but at least Mac users won’t have to bother with Fusion/Parallels/etc every time they fish a new leaked OS out of the swamp. Hit the read link to register for updates on DM for Mac.

If Palm had gone this route then their users wouldn’t have to rely on “DVD Jon” or some other similar hack to sync their phones.
Awesome!! AWESOME!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
death to vista on my macs!
Finally gonna get back some HD space form uninstalling Vista!
This was the only reason i had it installed…lol
@ “Teno”
I assume you’re an apple employee.
But first, IT’S ABOUT FUCKING TIME!!!! Why do we have to wait til September? This better not be like the Bold launch.
Back to Teno. How? How do I get my iTunes on my Bold. It don’t work. I download only amazon mp3 now because my Bold won’t play my iTune purchased tracks. I have to burn a CD then rip it back off. So, so stupid.
Teno?
There is a preview version of Blackberry Media Sync for Mac available on their website. It doesn’t seem to have been updated since October, but it knew my Tour!
so happy what took them so long but you know what better be late and come out with a nicely done product .
can’t wait
Woo Hoo! Finally! yay yay yay!
Anyone who has been using a BlackBerry on a Mac should have been using PocketMac. This has been a free application for syncing BlackBerry devices to your Mac for years. I guess RIM decided to roll the features into their own branded app now that marketshare has shifted over.
^^^ Are you a Mac/BB user? PocketMac is terrible.
You’re better off not synching at all.
FUCK YEAH!
FINALLY!
JOLLY DAY!
@TechnoBeaver
Citing basic knowledge that can be easily found makes me an Apple employee?
The reason you cannot sync your Bold to iTunes is because Apple does not allow it. Apple has built it’s own ecosystem and wants it’s own products to benefit from iTunes.
Apple does allow third party software to sync using the iTunes database. When RIM releases it’s own sync software your Bold will have no problem syncing iTunes media that has no DRM.
This is good news. I’m glad I read this because I was about to drop $39.95 for the Missing Sync.
I am sure it will be nice to have that application, but there already is a great app out now from markspace that already syncs your BB and Itunes and calendar, etc. It’s very inexpensive and works probably better than the Mac BB desktop manager ever could. give it a shot if you haven’t already.
I totally agree
its IS ABOUT FKING TIME !!!!!
What the HELL are they dilly dallying for
I keep listening to the news talk about this
