T-Mobile Samsung Highlight gets official, July release

It’s not a T-Mobile myTouch 3G (aka the dumbest name in marketing history), but Samsung is going to take care of that feature-phone segment with a new 3G handset — or at least try to. The Samsung Highlight will be available this month if you’re interested. It’ll retail for $150 after rebates and here are the official specs:

  • Large touch-screen display, thin-profile design
  • Available in two colors options: fire and ice
  • 3 megapixel camera with 3x digital zoom and video capture
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • microSD slot for up to 16 GB of optional removable memory
  • Music player supports MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+
  • Support for SMS, MMS, instant messaging (IM) and e-mail
  • IM support: AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger
  • E-mail support: AOL, Yahoo!, additional POP3 accounts
  • Complete Web access through T-Mobile web2go
  • A-GPS with Location Based Services by TeleNav
  • Quad-band GSM world phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • UMTS/HSDPA-capable (1700/2100 – AWS Band IV)
  • Display: 1.61 x 2.64 inches, 240 x 400 pixels, 262k TFT display
  • 4.27 x 2.11 x 0.54 inches; 3.7 ounces

This looks like a nice handset. But with the upcoming MyTouch3G, this will be a hard sell.

I agree it better not be close to the mytouch price point. Its a good phone but without those apps? Naw

Looks pretty cool if you don’t need application driven products like the myTouch 3G, RIM or Apple devices.

My mom and dad have T-Mobile and I wanted to get them their first touchscreen devices. They’re both over 60 but even they told me they are tired of boring flip phones! LOL

If this thing has icons big enough to see and a voice mic loud enough to hear I might pick them up a couple of these. Or maybe the Behold 2? Hmm.

At least an intresting Entry-Level Touchphone, but it looks like another TouchWiz-Device doesn´t it?

$150’s a little steep for this dumbphone–it doesn’t even have a 5/8MP camera to justify the price!

Still, I’m sure it’d be a nice phone for someone, and for that someone who doesn’t want to spend the additional data plan for the MyTouch 3G, it just maybe what the doctor ordered. Let’s keep that in mind.

I see one of the wholesale clubs is selling it through the weekend for $60 with a new line (and the Dash 3G for $20).
