Official Google Voice app launching today for both Android and BlackBerry

Third-party apps be damned as Google is getting ready to launch the official Google Voice application for both Android and BlackBerry platforms. We knew it was coming of course — it was just a matter of when. The news comes straight from the mouth of Google Voice’s Vincent Paquet who says the application will not only allow Google Voice users to place calls on their devices and have recipients’ calls display the Google Voice number, but it will also make it possible to view voicemail transcripts within the application as opposed to through the mobile web. Unfortunately, no word on SMS integration. We do have to wonder when the company plans to finish off the massive backlog of invites and maybe even open the service up to the public. Oh and while GV Mobile has done a terrific job of tiding us over on the iPhone, we’re definitely anxious to see if Google can match its functionality or even exceed it (push notifications for SMS and voicemails?) with its own app.

UPDATE: As of about 9am EDT, the BlackBerry app is now available for OTA download at http://m.google.com/voice

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

now google and its CEO started to show that there is no link between apple and google, by releasing this for blackberry and not for iphone.
and its CEO purposefully released pics using blackberry.
this all is because there might be anti trust hearing for apple and google.
they quietly support each other, no doubt.
Another evidence is they released Crome os (web os) not a pure OS which can compete os x. The only company which is going to win is apple.
I would like to ask top management people of google, which phones they use, is it Iphone or HTC G1. i am sure 99% are using Iphone. why because they themself don’t trust Android/G1

I have had since CG days as well. I never used it until today when I saw I could put on my BB. Pretty slick program. Doesn’t quite get the wording right but not bad on message emails to text.

i don’t understand what “no word on SMS integration” means in the original post. the Voice app gives me a menu option in my BB Address book to either “Call using GoogleVoice” or “SMS using GoogleVoice.”

There is no “Sent” folder in the Voice app, but that’s not a big deal for me.

I hate myself for saying this but the official app kind of sucks..
Text messages get delayed unless you check the app itself, which is odd since the app is always running in the background. And if you unable the Do Not Disturb feature, then you start to get two messages, one from the native SMS app and one from Google Voice. Which is annoying.
Call screening so far has not worked, and I don’t get any notification that I’m making a call through Google Voice.

If it actually placed calls using WiFi on the Blackberry, it would be very useful. Currently, it dials CA to initiate calls. I look forward to the advance of this application which looks like it may actually beat Skype to the punch for a useful VOIP Blackberry app.

Does anyone know if it’s a data call or a PSTN call if I call out from my device?

    Dear Google,

It would be fantastic if you could focus on one of your product ideas, instead of making a bunch of half-assed products. For example, the G1. Why does every app I have on my phone force close? It’s a phone, and I have apps that force close? That’s really poor. You don’t care though. Not at all.

    Sincerely,

    A F*cked G1 user

In all seriousness though, does the CEO of google have severe A.D.D? They release one service/product right after another and then abandon it. It wasn’t long ago that Gmail FINALLY came out of BETA. WTF is wrong with google? I’m never buying a Android phone again. They suck, and nothing seems like it was developed by the same company. Every native app looks, and operates differently. That is, until it force closes. Die Android, die a long, painful, horrific death.

Love Google voice! Another great idea by the Google gang, always trying to make this easier at a low cost to us all. Thanks!
