BlackBerry Tour 9630 on sale today from Sprint and Verizon

For over a year the BlackBerry Tour 9630 has been front and center on oh so many of your minds and now, CDMA-bound BlackBerry fans, it’s finally here. Both Verizon and Sprint have made the anticipated handset available this morning and it’s time for you to put your money where your unending comments mouth is and snag one. We think you’ve earned it. Just let us know how you like it and perhaps more importantly, how the inventory is holding up.

thanx trick
Ordered the Tour yesterday online after going into 2 Sprint stores and being told they wouldnt have the physical device until 8/2. No displays, no promotional posters, NOTHING! The sales reps didnt even know the phone had been released.
Then i went across the street into a VZW store to check the out the phone and was instantly greeted by a sales rep; there were mutiple display units available, promotional posters/displays, and plenty of people there on a Sunday morning purchasing the phone.
Just another example of why Sprint is losing customers.
Should I get the Tour on Verizon or should I wait for the optical trackball and updated OS on the 9900 series? Keep in mind I will be sticking with VZW
@ SteveGlansberg
You waste of human organs, you asked for it, moron.
Hi guys, I have to say Verizon had plenty of stock on hand for the launch. That’s impressive compared to the Storm launch.
I’m probably the only one who will be sticking with my
Curve for a while. I’m been with Verizon since the beginning. And have own both the Pearl along with the Curve. I just not 100% sold on it yet.
Congrats everyone on your new purchase!
Sprint is not carrying this phone at their retail stores until the middle or end of August. You must order through tele-sales if you want one before then.
I would like some different options for themes, though. Not a huge fan of the two that are available, currently.
I wonder how StevenGlansburge or what ever thinks about his iPhone with no 3G service? lol
I checked all Coverage maps for Fredericktown in the states that have a town/city named that. Most came up with EDGE/GPRS only, and some came up with NO SERVICE while all the towns/citys have Verizon EVDO 3G.
This dude is a JOKE.
I hope everyone enjoys there Tours. I know I do! =D
Sprint has walked a very fine legal line, by advertising the “release date of July 12″, and yet not one individual can get it in there hands, for day’s to come!
Sprint completely dropped the ball by the lack of training and preparation of the Stores and the Staff on the Tour “release facts”!
A Store Manager even said that you have to get the “Everything Plan” on all the new coming Smartphones, including the Tour, except for the current Palm Pro.
Tier 2, said that you have to add a $30 Data package to your Plan, he said they have yet to see the Tour, or even be trained on them!
I was curious to see the differences between the VZW and the Sprint unit. The 360 on the above link, seems to show a different finished back and a silver trim.
It is sad to see that the lack of coordination and misinformation are still hand in hand, in charge, at Sprint.
Thank You
@Mike, Ima just start by saying I totally agree with you when it comes to sprint and their service. I walked into sprint with my fiancee the other day so she could make arrangements for cancellation when her contract is over in september…. anyways we walked in and the place was dark uninviting and just overall an unpleasant place to be. on top of all that the girl who helped us had no personality other than the fact that she kept staring at me which in turn caused an argument between me and my fiancee. Bottom line I do not like sprint very in terms of overall look of stores and feeling comfortable in them and then theres the customer service issue. So all you sprint fan boys calm yaselves cause sprint isnt all that great.
I ordered a Tour from Sprint’s Web site at 12:15 AM on Sunday. I just got a phone call from them asking me to verify all of the information that was in the order. They then told me that I would see my phone in 2-5 business days. However, when I then checked their website my order was listed as backordered….. Sprint obviously was not really ready to release this phone on Sunday.
Impressions of the Tour:
SO, I went to the one VZW store early in the am, and surprisingly it was empty. Even more surprisingly, they DIDN’T have the Tour in stock. Their shipment doesn’t arrive till Weds.
Headed about 20min to the next town, where they had 60 or so in stock. About 20 hours into opening, they had only sold 10. Guess the phone’s arrival didn’t trickle down to casual users.
My impression of the phone:
Wow! Great phone, and a switch from my previous Windows Mobile Device.
Pros:
- Excellent screen quality. Very impressive.
- Speed: Gremlin fast! Minimal lag in opening apps
-GPS: The GPS chip is unlocked and can be used by 3rd parties.
-Apps: Facebook, GoogleTalk, etc are already downloaded, u just have to install them. Visual Voicemail has to be downloaded, ask your rep to set you up.
- Battery Life: Spent all day playing, tweaking ,customizing, and testing. Didn’t charge last night and still have 60% charge some 30 hours later.
Cons:
-Auto complete is not available. On my WM6 phone, if you typed “app” a drop down showing apple, applicaiton, applied, etc would appear, saving you typing. Not avail on the Tour.
-Screen: If you touch the screen, even slightly, it gets blurry. (What do i mean? Take your index finger. Poke your monitor really hard. If you touch the Tour screen lightly, you get simillar effects that disappear with the pressure)
- Mailboxes: Not able to individually assign passwords to mailboxes. Useful feature for some of us
Summary:
If you are staying with Verizon… and don’t need a large touch screen…. TU TU TU TOUR!
I too ordered the Sprint Tour @ 12:10am Sunday morning, my order show’s backordered as well. I did call and the representative said they will get a shipment today and my order should ship tomorrow…… We shall see…..
I just spoke with Sprint and they said 5-7 days precessing for the Tour and over night shipping once the processing is done. They also said they don’t know when its coming in stores. And if you order online its free shipping and activation. So I would expect it to take a week or more to get to Sprint users.
@scroffy – All new commenters have to get their comments moderated. But I think that you assume that your self-adsorbed petty sniping at Chris is some sort of literature masterpiece that we all want… nay… need to read.
This is a message thread about the new release of the Tour. If you don’t care about it, why are you here?
Anyone who ordered on the phone yesterday (Sunday) get their tracking info e-mailed to them yet? They said plenty in stock and I’d get tracking info via e-mail today and I’ve gotten nothing.
I’m upgrading from an enV2 to a Tour, so this is a big jump for me!
@Sean – I got my “order shipped” with FedEx tracking number e-mailed to me on Sunday.
@ Sean
i ordered mine on sunday night and i still havnt gotten anything and the order # they gave me doesnt work on the website. i hope it comes.
just got an email saying my sprint tour shipped, should have tommorrow. Pre and tour will be on the hip!!!
btw the name steven glansburg is from superbad, when seth is eating lunch and says he doesnt want to sit by himself eating desert like steven glansburg. he was a tool in the movie and is a bigger tool on here lol
The name Steven Glansburg is from the movie Superbad “What? you want me to sit here alone and eat desert like I’m fucking steven glansburg?”
…however I’m not going to play along and say I am that guy on the myspace profile. But if that’s the mental image you want and makes you happy then go ahead
What area of the US do you live in?
At least the Sprint one has the GSM side unlocked, vzw probably wanted to make sure thier big brother vodaphone got thier share
Umm… no Don Louie Cantone
Verizon unlockes there GSM phones too.
Unlike Sprint, Verizon has a lot more GSM/CDMA phones and we can use our GSM phones in more places because of our Roaming partners. Not to forget, we can also use data in more places because of our Roaming partners.
Damn sprint smh…I was so mad walkin in VZM stores and seeing this sexy device but…my order is sayin back order thats so bs!!! i need my tour asap!!!!….
A friend of mine that works at best buy mobile said ha VZM had the $$$ to pay for their phones…so rim made there’s first then they are gonna do sprint later,,,smh
