The first storm is nice, just update to the new 5.0 OS and its so much faster. i will be upgrading to the 9550 whenever it comes out.

what to know if the Storm 2 is going to have GPS as well as WiFi. i would like to have the WiFi but use my GPS with thrid party apps and would like to keep doing that any help on this would be nice. thx

I just noticed that Verizon offers Desktop Manager 5.0. IIRC, the version of Desktop Manager hold closely to the available software version. I could be wrong, though.

Neither storm is heat sensitive, capacitive means the electricity your fingers give off is what controls the touch screen, so just touch with your fingers not nails and there shouldnt be a problem

Absolutely agree Orlando. The Blackberry is a powerhouse now. I have version .151 on my Blackberry Storm (Just got it this week!) and it runs very nicely. People can’t complain that it doesn’t run like a computer or a human brain… it’s a PHONE. Treat it like one. Respect it like one. And trust me, the Storm will show you organization/productivity/entertainment/personal satisfaction just like RIM usually manages to do.

Also, there is a new Blackberry Messenger application…. the future is in…BARCODES?

I have a question,the Storm has a heat activated touch screen so for someone like myself I cant text with this phone with my long nails,So my question is will the new touch screen without the surepress work the same way? If thats the case i guess I wont be getting the Storm @ like Ive been planning!

I have T-Mobile and I only have a few requests for them. The next BlackBerry they release better have 3G! How can you offer 3G but not offer it on the BlackBerry when almost every carrier who has both does? I would like a touchscreen BlackBerry. They can call it the Storm 2 or the Curve 4 as long as it has touch. And keep the Wifi option. I love that on my curve. That being said, I probably won’t upgrade to any of the Curve/Bold clones anytime soon. I’ve had my Curve for about 2 years and the Pearl before that. I liked both but I just need something that keeps up with me and the way I use a phone.

True true. I just got back from the Verizon store at my local mall to play with the Storm for the first time. It wasn’t bad at all. I can already tell that it’ll take some time to get used to, that’s for sure. My typing on the new Storm (with the update) was slower than right now with my Curve, but I need a change and I think this Storm is for me. How do you like the new .148 update?

I was sitting around not upgrading cause I heard about the Tour and the Storm 2. There was and still is no date on the storm 2. eventually I said forget and got a storm two weeks ago and I am loving it. New phones come out all the time. If you keep waiting you will never get a new phone. Your phone will only be the latest and greatest for a short time. Waited on the Storm till most of the bugs were worked out so by the time I am ready for an upgrade again hopefully the bugs will be worked out of the Storm 2 or BB will have a touchscreen/physical keyboard phone.

I’m in the same boat. My Sprint contract is ending and I want to switch to Verizon and get a Storm, but should I try waiting it out until the Storm 2 comes out??? I’m looking EVERYWHERE for a release date!

So for folks out there waiting, just get a phone I’m pretty sure you wont be disappointed with new released blackberries. Verizon still has over 1.5 million BB Storms in stock to sell the Storm 2 looks like the storm 1.2 because it is basically the same phone with no real innovations if blackberry doesn’t update the OS or gives you more than 100mb to store apps they will end up like PALM with basically the same OS for ten years before they develop any new innovations.

You do have a good point. Since the iPhone, at&t has really seemed to hold back on other breakthrough phones, especially in the smart phone circuit. Good point, and noted. I don’t know if at&t would have a Storm running on their network unless the Verizon/Apple iPhone starts becoming a reality. I’m sure Apple has at&t by the balls with their agreement and at&t can’t act on new and breakthrough smartphones like BlackBerry’s future lineup.

Let’s be honest here. The Storm 2, when it comes out, will probably be a good phone. It will have most features on the checklist……checked off. The visual voicemail will be nice, even though the iPhone would have had it first. Only the second phone EVER from BlackBerry, to have come out with GPS, Wifi, AND 3G. Which is actually an embarrassment and complete disgrace. We can only hope they’ve ironed out the massive amount of bugs that was present in the first Storm.

There are a couple of important things to note here and they pretty much deal with the RIM-Apple rift. Desmond, in the midst of a profoundly deep rant, made an excellent point. Both Apple and RIM have orchestrated this phony, goofy, worthless product war. And both are responsible for holding back the development of their products for pointless reasons. But as with most things in life, you have to go with the lesser of two evils. And in this case, I’m sorry, but it’s Apple. I speak from experience. I bought a BlackBerry Bold as my first BlackBerry and then switched to an iPhone 3GS, both being the hallmark devices of their respective companies.

As I pointed out earlier, this will be only the SECOND device that RIM will have come out with all the necessary smartphone features. And with the 20 or so devices that RIM has released in the last 3 years, Apple has, in that SAME SPAN OF TIME, caught up and exceeded what RIM does. What is with the incessant bitching about a physical keyboard? Wanna know what having physical parts on a physical keyboard does? Wanna know how annoying it is to have your buttons get chipped or fade? It’s just patently ignorant to pretend that a keyboard is better for typing. With ONE GIANT FINGER, pecking away at an iPhone keyboard, I type faster than I’ve ever typed on ANY QWERTY keyboard. Not only that, but any process on an iPhone takes 1/3 of the button presses that it would with a traditional smartphone button interface. So this keyboard mandating has to be stop, because it’s just dumb. SurePress will inevitably have been improved or have been renamed on the Storm 2. And all you keyboarders can keep buying a new phone every 6 months, when RIM is still playing with the Rubik’s smartphone features Cube, forcing users to pick only 2 out of 3 features (Wifi, GPS, 3G)

The lack of centralization in the BlackBerry universe is just appalling and really cripples the ability to use the device easily and ESPECIALLY optimize it. Why in the blue hell are there multiple App Stores? Why aren’t updates readily available in a central location, both for the apps and the OS itself? Why did RIM not incentivize developers to create free apps, but instead, do the opposite, in what was probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in the industry. Why do people have to wait for a new OS leak in order to update their OS, while carriers like AT&T offer the same OS for months and months on end, ignoring updated software with improvements? Let’s not forget the pit crew type skill with which you need to do battery pulls on your BlackBerry, when it inevitably crashes. Or you could just download QuickPull, which is just hysterical, because someone saw fit to make an application that reset your device for you, because it was hard for you to use in the first place.

RIM is an incrementalist company that has had the same strengths and the same weaknesses for YEARS. For enterprise and email, it’s a pretty good device. But the iPhone can do both better. It’s easier to use. It’s higher quality. It has better thought out features. And quite frankly, other than a camera flash, Flash support for the web browser, and better support for multi-tasking, I can’t possibly think of what the iPhone could do better. BlackBerries on the other hand are just as bad at multitasking, but at least will have Skyfire and camera flashes. So I guess you get to pick. But there’s no point in lamenting the existence of evils in the wireless industry when you have to pick one and just live with it or just not be able to enjoy a digitally mobile life.

And in regards to the Storm 2, like I said, I’m sure it will be a fine phone. But as long as it still has that P.O.S. for an O.S. and a lack of centralization, it will be remembered as the latest mobile phone contribution from a company trapped in inescapable incrementalism.
