Bell’s Palm Pre contest outs MSRP, tips its hat to failure
These days it’s pretty much a given that whenever a new smartphone is launched, its carriers will give a few away in hopes of drumming up every last little bit of buzz head of release. Everyone knows the odds of winning one of these contests are horrible but the truth is we’re all winners thanks to those glorious contest laws that dictate the full-retail price of prizes be made clear. In the case of the Bell Palm Pre, the MSRP looks as if it will be $650 CAD (or $649.95 in Bell’s crazy world where its CFO seems to have something of a fetish for five-cent coins), which is about the same as Sprint. It might seem a bit pricey but hey, the money that will be paid out to the genius who put a picture of the Treo Pro on the Palm Pre contest literature has to come from somewhere.
Does the winner get one of the stuffed mashed potato lump dolls as well?
Why is the phone shown in the pic not a Palm Pre? And that owl pic is pretty creepy…

I just checked the Bell Canada site, the Pre picture has been updated now, it’s a Pre.

So marketing guys are idiots. Same here in the states. have an at&t poster currently on display in my store touting unlim text/web on the xenon and e71x. Screenshot on the e71x is definitely from a bold.

that came out on 10/23/08. Check out palm.com. It’s a great Treo actually, which runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, upgradable to 6.5, and 7.0 when they come out.
Re: MSRP… I’ve gotta think that with the Apple iPhone price here in the great white north giving a BIG haircut (and models with more storage capacity) that Bell has to be rethinking the package pricing of the Pre -prelaunch. Afterall, you only get one shot a good launch in this nanosecond marketing world where something newer, slicker, better & faster is nearly ready to start coming off the assembly lines for shipping. Just my 2 cents…
Well at the rate in which the Pre is “coming soon”, we all may as well wait for the I-Phone to come to Bell at the end of the year.
Quite frankly this is the longert build up to any phone that I’ve seen in a long time, where the hype is likely going to hurt it rather than help it.
People are getting tired of waiting and waiting, and friends of mine have already jumped to Rogers to get their hands on the new I-Phone.
