Comments on: webOS 1.1 on its way to Palm Pre; Exchange enhancements, security and apps to be focus?

I just got the PRE and our IT can’t get it to work, they spent 3 hours yesterday and can’t get our certificate to work with exchange sync. it is so frustrating. he has tried everything, i don’t know whether to take it back or wait for this roll out which will hopefully fix it? any more word on when it is coming out? HELP!!

I have a Pre and am loving it. Definitely waiting on some apps and some updates from Palm.

I need “little” fixes like being able to control how many times it rings / vibrates when you get a text (I use it as my work pager).

Which phone is best depends on your use and your personality. I finally use my phone for work email / calendar because of the level of separation it allows me and for the ease of use. I love the phone because of it’s amazing integration with how it handles my bluetooth stereo headset and plugging into my car. And I can still read books (through classic).

I anxiously waited for the Pre…..got one, I liked the phone….I was obsessed with keeping all the smudges off the front of it. I actually kept a towel in my desk and car just to clean it! Anyhow, after two weeks and bored with the minimal apps I took it back. I could not believe how big the keyboard on Moto Q was after using the Pre’s!

These updates will bring the end user experience (from a security perspective) of the Pre in line with WM6.1.

Otherwise, with flag syncing, universal inbox, automatic global addressbook search, and unintrusive mail notifications, the Pre mail experience has been awesome. I do occasionally have hiccups with EAS, so hopefully this will fix it. I’m excited for the security updates.

I read a review in which the point was made that the Pre actually was more of a threat to Blackberry than to the Iphone because of its business potential. I don’t miss my Blackberry at all.

@ JoeTour Yea I heard all the cheerleaders and cool kids are checking their phones for synergy and multitasking.. Get real more business people use the Pre than the Tour.. And when you reply and say the Tour isnt out yet.. Ill reply and say my point exactly.. Web OS is better suited for business than the iphone or android was this early on..

I left my iphone for the pre and I’m quite happy with my decision when the apps come it will be the most complete phone. I bought the extended battery and my battery now last from 9am to 10pm, with the stock battey it would only last 9 to 6, so its a big improvement

I love the phone, but they need to address the basic’s first. Battery, sluggish performance at times, slow email functionality when you’re dealing with email on a BB level. Once those are addressed (especially the battery), then getting it up to par on the corporate level would be the next step. Having a phone that addresses security and solid email, but dies out after a couple of hours due to usage and crappy reception and coverage defeats having a phone at all.

The nice thing though is that Palm is trying to pump out updates as fast as possible. Gotta give them a ‘A’ for trying.

Excuse me? I own a BlackBerry Bold and I’m only 13. I don’t use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server; I use the gmail, facebook, and myspace apps. I have to say I don’t use the BlackBerry to its fullest potential but for what its worth I use it for everything it can offer me. The best part; unlike WinMo and standard devices my BlackBerry can’t be hacked to get into my personal data. I have sisters who are obsessed with my text messages and they can’t get into my phone’s texts since they don’t know the password. I agree my teenage romances are not nearly as significant to the rest of the world as the highly confedential data stored on most enterprise BlackBerry’s but for me this BlackBerry is really awesome! So to all of you who say BlackBerry’s aren’t teenager oriented but for what they are; they are very appealing to teenagers.

These updates seem great, but I think all Pre owners are really wanting some activity in the App Catalog. I switched from the iPhone to the Pre and have to admit it’s a little depressing to see all the new apps being released for the iPhone and then realizing that the SDK hasn’t even been publicly released for the Pre yet. How long will we have to wait? I am tired of seeing 30 apps in the catalog…

Wrong – Palm desperately needed this or they’d be in the same boat as Android. Totally shut out of the enterprise market.

Without working EAS security a large number of companies simpley won’t even bother looking at the device.

I have a eval Pre now and until we can enforce EAS it’s not being approved for use.

Wrong priorities. Get right the hardware, and then bother about security. Heck, blacberries need security not teenage oriented gadgets. Finding out about a 1-night-stand isn’t exectly the kind of thing that needs layers of security on it
