LG’s 12.1 megapixel-packin’ GC990 Louvre says wassup

If phones that would make most affordable digital point and shoot cameras blush are your thing, then you might want to take a moment to familiarize yourself with LG’s upcoming GC990 Louvre. Rushing past the awesome non-camera related specs that include a 3.2-inch 16:9 touchscreen display , Wi-Fi, aGPS, DNLA, TV-out, Bluetooth, XviD and DivX playback, the Louvre packs a powerful 12.1 megapixel shooter complete with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and touch-focus capabilities. Film speed supposedly tops out at a whopping ISO 3200 for still images while video can be recorded at resolutions up to 720p at 30 fps. Sounds killer, right? We think so, too, with our only complaint being that a phone featuring the S-Class UI should have never been named after one of the most renowned art museums in the world. S-Class is great and all, but no. Anyway, hit the jump for a few more pics.

Thanks, Dion!

    Why would anybody buy any LG products? They have the poorest build quality I have ever seen. Not just phones, but also TVs, washers/dryers. They are terrible and then the poor service you get when their products break is unbelievable.

    great, a 12 mp phone that will store more crappy photos. who needs 12.1 mp images? talk about a WASTE of precious space. Everything I’ve ever used from LG has been garbage too, consider it trashed from poor build quality after 6 months max. sorry, FAIL.

    Looks like an iPhart and an Instink had a drunken threesome with a Sony impersonator and this popped out…. Nice to look at but don’t touch or it will fall apart like alot of LG hardware.

    When will the average consumer realize that higher resolution past a certain point DOES NOT translate into better picture quality?

    (Think pure quantum physics, and the number of photons per ccd element per second).

    For better quality, you need a BIGGER ccd array, which manufacturers never do because they’re cheap and want to press as many ccd arrays onto the cmos die.

    higher resolutions like that are just marketing bunk.

    @jimmy

    …because the average consumer is anything but average. Most consumers – statistically speaking – don’t really know anything about what they are buying. That’s why bigger numbers usually sells more products. You have a 1,000,000 megapixel camera? Great, it’s going to sell because people think the higher the megapixel the better the camera; completely ignoring white balancing, image stabilization, faster shutter speeds, digital zoom vs. optical zoom, etc. You have a 300 horsepower 4-cylinder? Awesome, that’s way better than a 250 horsepower V8, right?

    Fact is, consumers are dumb and company’s just prey off of them being misinformed. Think about all those suckers who bought first generation 1080P TV’s only to realize later that their TV can’t even actually output 1080P.

    To be fair, though, consumer idiocy isn’t entirely the consumer’s faults. Company’s make things as confusing as possible so that you think you understand something when you really don’t. It’s why I enjoy listening to someone tell me that all the Xbox 360 games are 1080P when they have no clue that not a single 360 game is 1080P native and all at best are 720p with 1080p upscaled. But, whatever floats your boat.

    So true. 12.1 MP thru some budget LG micro lens is just a big waste, IMO. Won’t eliminate handshake, just produce bigger blurry pictures.

    It’s all about the optics, not the MP’s. Large crappy pics are still crappy. Nice marketing angle, but in the real world it’s a bunch of hooey.

    Love the last few posts. Spot on.
    On the camera angle, I only ever us my bb camera to take a contact pic. I have seen some nice pics taken with Nokia cams in perfect light and close distance.
