Samsung i7500 Galaxy hits UK this month

Sure, we might be a bit more anxious for the Hero, G1 v2 or the Morrison at this point, but let’s not forget Samsung’s first Android-powered handset — the Galaxy i7500 — has yet to see the light of day. Though it might not be the most exciting handset in the world, the i7500 certainly will be the best-spec’d Android handset when it launches. While we know it will be hitting T-Mobile at some point here in the US, it looks like our friends across the pond will be first to enjoy this sweet smartphone with an O2 release coming some time this month. Big bright touchscreen, 8GB of internal storage, 5 megapixel camera with flash, 3.5mm audio jack and Android 1.5 all wrapped in a 12mm-thin case… Fair enough. So what say you — disappointed that our Euro pals get first crack at another sweet phone or did you start day dreaming as soon as we mentioned the Hero?

^ No kidding. The Android UI looks a little long in the tooth to me already. (I know it’s only been about 8 months) I love the Amoled screen on the I7500 but man, after seeing the customization features on the Sense UI I’m impressed.

@wallyson: What customization features got you so impressed?

Not saying that its not a nice looking UI, I just don’t see much customization that it has compared to the stock android UI.

    Me says:

If the phone launches with the rumored 128 megabytes of RAM, I would have to question the “best-spec’d” assertion, as even the G1 has 192 MB. 128 MB is a major Achilles heel.

@tande: I beleive wallyson was only refering to the Sense UI as a customization not Android itself. He is saying that the original Android UI looks crappy when compared to Sense.

    wallyson says:

@Tande – it looks as though on the Sense you can have more control over the placement of your widgets, apps and features (music player etc.) You can do that to some extent on the standard Android UI but I always found myself fumbling through the menus more than I wanted. On the Android UI you can scroll left or right for 3 total windows on the wheel. I believe it is 7 windows on the Sense with more control over what is displayed on those windows.

Hmm…All I can say is get it over here. It’s not surprising at all that this phone is being released across the pond first, however, patience we must have. Personally, I think this is the best Android phone thus far. I’m waiting specifically for it to come across the waters. I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about it.

Aside from the screen, this Phone isn’t at all better than the G2/Magic.

they both have the ualcomm MSM 7201A 528 MHz processor and the G2 has 192MB of RAM while this phone has 128MB.

The android OS looks so boring because they Photoshop the same stock image on every phone
    - calm water CHECK
    - analog clock CHECK
    - Icon customization CHECK
good job boys our first android phone
they should have at least changed the default background on the OS when cupcake came out.

Check again, it has at least 192MB RAM, confirmed by samsung blogg.

    Jason says:

Only 128mb of RAM will be a major limitation once this phone gets rooted.
Already the vodaphone versions of the G2/Magic have trouble running the full Sense UI, and that’s with 192mb of RAM. Mind you, further optimizations might help once Hero actually gets released.

Us lucky Rogers users get 288mb to play with (not sure about the T-mobil version). 8GB of storage is a non-factor since SD cards are so cheap.

I was initially excited about this phone, but now I’d probably stick to my magic, or get a Hero.

    Ravnos says:

I’d much rather have this than the Hero. Sense doesn’t do anything for me, I’d rather have the larger built-in storage and better camera. And if I really want Sense on this thing, I’m sure there’s some hacker who will make it happen for me. If only it would come over with 850/1900 HSPA support.

@Ravnos – Your last line is what is the only downfall of this phone for me on AT&T. No 3G. Good points about the Sense on other phones though.

The phone looks okay. It’s 2009 I just feel the design should be better. I like the specs though and the fact that it has a flash may make it more desireable. I can’t seem to get a sexy looking adrioid sense phone with flash. The hero could have been my hero but alas.
